I have a Miele Cat and Dog cylinder vacuum and it's fab. I loved it so much that I recommended it to my Mum who loves hers and is recommending it to all her friends too. It gets everything up off carpets, tiles or wooden floors with ease.

The Miele Cat and Dog certainly seems to be a firm favourite on the net. But again has mixed reviews.

I've got through rather a lot of vacuums over the years from Dysons (hated it  !) to Vax, Electrolux and Panasonic and the Miele is definitely the best of the bunch as far as I'm concerned :D .

After my 2nd Dyson just totally died on me,I decided I didn't want another as I never really rated it anyway. I have just bought a vax and it's great-plus I got it for less than £100 when it should have been closer to £200.Bargain! The hose is great as it's really long, ideal for the staircase. And the suction is really strong. Good luck with whichever you choose.

I have a lovely yellow Miele :D Its not brilliant on hair (human or animal) but it almost lifts the carpet up when its on full power  I love it though. My mum has a Sebo and she loves that. I used it a couple of weeks ago and it is very good. I prefer my one as its a cylinder and very easy to move about.

We replaced our Dyson with a Vax Mach 6. Very good and with a 6 year guarantee as standard but quite heavy.

I have had a Sebo upright for 16 years and it's still going strong.
Also from John Lewis.
I remember the lovely salesman let me try all their cleaners and it was a hoot as we both pushed them about the store.
The bags are expensive from John Lewis but are about quarter of the price online.

I have an Animal Dyson for our daytime living floor which does the job of clearing up after two dogs and a cat but it is heavy, unwieldy, using just the hose sucks and I hate it!!!!
I have to use it though as hubby said it was a waste of time getting it as my old vacuum cleaner was so good but I had to have it, silly me. He was right but I'm not letting him know that

If you have pets (especially a shedding dog) nothing sucks up pet hair like a Dyson - believe me my GSD sheds 365 days a year!

I don't really like my Dyson (very heavy) but as I have used many brands, the Dyson has a superior suction.

Plaster dust plays havoc with the dyson filter according to our nice vacumn cleaner repair man

We have a pet hair, serious allergy filters dyson for general and a Henry for renovating. I wouldn't use the Henry for every day as its filters are virtually non-existent but it is superb for cleaning up building rubble, garage etc.

The dyson is good but needs specialist cleaning of filters too much for my liking. (must take it in again sigh)

Sebos are the only brand where you can remove & replace ALL the filters with new ones - they recommend once a year.
I love my cylinder one :D
