does this sound like a moult

Post Sat Jul 31, 2010 8:01 pm

hi,
when chickens are in a moult, how quickly do they lose feathers? one of my hens has recently been poorly and has just finished a course of antibiotics, and although she has picked up remarkably, she is losing feathers left right and centre,
if she sits down, when she gets up there are 30/40 feathers, if she shakes, the same thing. i came downstairs to find a pile of feathers on the kitchen floor, for a minute i thought a cat had caught something. does this sound like a normal loss? she has never moulted before so i guess its time she is about 2 years.
thanks Olive

Certainly sounds like it.

My white cochin is currently moulting. She moves and drops feathers. The run looks like there has been one almighty pillow fight whilst we weren't looking

Bob and Betty are moulting loads at the moment.
The MD's moult most of the time so I find loads of brown feathers.
