  1. Love the photos and your cottage looks beautiful.
  2. Winnie is around two years old and has had a few broody spells this year. It's only lasted around 24 hours each time - so far!
  3. He's a cutie. Good luck.
  4. Maybe best to wait and see what the others say that have more experience with mareks. Good luck!
  5. She's back to laying normal sized eggs in the nest box. I googled wind egg and took a screenprint of what Wikipedia had to say. I'd never heard of the term before. Every day is a school day!
  6. I would put her in the broody box now. I would also let my neighbour see what to do just in case it happens when you're away, unless you decide to get someone in the whole time.
  7. So you do mean a cover for an outside water tap? Do you have a picture of it, please, or a link to one?
  8. I've reported the quail post to the Mods asking them to move it to the Quail section.
  9. If it lasts longer than a week I'd go and see my GP in case it's an inner ear thing. I love being on boats and I've only had mal-de-mer three times; once crossing to Ireland from Holyhead when it was very rough, once on a glass bottom boat in Florida and once on a coach in the Dominican Republic. I never actually vomited and it stopped as soon as I put my feet on the ground. I sometimes get the moving sensation in bed if I've been on a long train journey but it never lasts very long.
  10. It's all part of establishing the pecking order and it can be distressing to watch them being bullied. Follow CatT's advice and everything should settle down reasonably quickly. If you don't already have some, buy some Gentian Antiseptic Spray for them in case the bully draws blood. As well as being an antiseptic it will stop the others from pecking at the redness.
  11. Wow! I'm presuming it was it a normal sized egg and not one of the tiny ones?
  12. Thanks, CatT. It's good to know it's nothing to worry about.
  13. I found this tiny egg in the garden. They usually lay in the coop nest area and at first, I wondered if it was a wild bird's egg, but now I don't think it is. Any opinions? If it is a hen's egg any ideas why it's so small?
  14. Wow! Let us know if it is a triple yoke. We have the same scales as you!
  15. Yes! A couple of years ago I was watching a couple of them hovering over our lawn. They're really quite cute.
  16. We'll make you more than welcome when the time comes in the next few years.
  17. It sounds idyllic! Do you have a spare room for visitors?! BTW, I never saw Rosemary on Saturday but if I ever do meet her I'll pass your message on.
  18. I can't see my hubby being happy at them jumping onto the table, especially if they tried to eat his food!
  19. Aaaand Winnie is broody again! It seems like it's a monthly thing with her as it's happened in April, May and now June. I hope this time it's a full-blown broody session so that she gets over it properly. I found Doris standing actually astride Winnie in the nesting area of the coop! It was like she was telling Winnie to move because she needed to lay, so Winnie is now in the broody pen which DH hates because he's such a softy and hates seeing her on her own and unhappy at not being able to brood!
  20. Thanks, Stepnout. Winnie started the squatting long after she started laying - she's two years old. I don't have to touch her, just walk past her and she squats! The other two are laying but don't squat and they're just over one year old. The weird and wonderful way of hens!
  21. I always give her a cuddle when she does it and that's as frisky as I'm going to get with her!
  22. Our girls only come in the house if I carry them but I don't have them in for long in case they poop. How do you deal with the poopy mess on your sofa?!
  23. I'm a newbie to the forum but I just wanted to welcome you back. I love your set-up!
  24. Rhubarb leaves are poisonous! We put ours in the compost bin. Charlie Bigham - never heard of him! I've seen the wooden fruit trays used for something but I can't remember what. I'm thinking something for the garden. . .
