  1. Hi everyone I was putting some bedding in the nest box of my eglu and like always my legbar goes into the coop and scraped the bedding onto the perches what do I do to keep the bedding in the nest box as when there is no bedding the nest box gets covered in poo which makes the eggs dirty. Many thanks Will
  2. Hi Good to see the hens are improving the ditamacious earth does help the gut but not healing it I use it on my hens they have no signs of worms I hope the hens get better soon! Will Hi Good to see the hens are improving the ditamacious earth does help the gut in preventing so use it for maybe a week or less every month a tablespoon with pellets. In terms of laying the comb seems almost there depends what age I have a legbar hybrid she started laying at 22 weeks but it can be up to 28 so be patient. Will
  3. I would put them into the coop it might be difficult to get them but try and put them in and leave them in there for about half an hour then open it up they should learn how to get back up.
  4. I have a welsummer and a Wheaton maran as well as one hybrid legbar. I dont think I will get more hens but the cube seems more practical in terms of cleaning and egg collection.
  5. Yes😂 but the hens are fantastic and with the eglu cleaning taking less then 10 mins a week I think that more would be great the breeds I have at the moment don't lay a lot. I might not even get more but with a new coop I can have the freedom ti do so if I want to.
  6. Hi everyone I have decided I want to swap my go for a cube as I would like to add some hybrids to my flock and I would like a raised coop. I can't afford new so If anyone has a mk1 or mk2 cube for sale please let me know I'm in Buckinghamshire. Many thanks Will
  7. Hi also while you wait for when you can use the flubenvet I would add apple cider vinegar to the hens water and if you can find any add ditamacious earth to the food it might help a bit but still use the flubenvet as you can see the worms Hope this helps a bit Will
  8. As catails said you have to add at least 2 at a time I lost my hen to the fox a week before Xmas. I wanted more hybrids but they were not available until February so I had to get 2 purebreeds instead. So get two at the same time ( I would recommend hybrids) Will
  9. Thank you I agree I will obviously look for a nearly new set but buy a new run and stand. Thank you again for your replys Will
  10. I would try another course of flubenvet maybe a week of flu ben vet. The British hen welfare Trust has a helpline which might be useful (if you are in the uk) if it still does not work.
  11. Hi Yes I was thinking of getting the stand and run or just replacing my go with a used eglu go up. But I don't know which is better Hope that is better explained
  12. Hello everyone I hope your well. I have decided to get and eglu go up but I was thinking about weather to buy a new run and stand from omlet or buy a used eglu go up( complete setup) I don't know which would he better value. I already have a eglu go which is very good and I have had for a year but I don't know weather it is better just to buy a used coop. Let me know what you think Will
  13. My first hen Was ester my light sussex hybrid she was fantastic she was docile laid an egg every day she followed me around the garden and would accept corn from my hand, she was always so excited when I went to see her. I loved her so much, she was killed and left by the fox after I forgot to lock the hens in but luckily left esters best freind leia who seemed very lonely. So shortly after she died I got a maran and a welsummer I will always remember her as my first and my favourite hen. 14. Hello everyone I hope you have all had a good weekend I woke up today to a pile of feathers in the run and house the chickens were fine all of them but it seemed that all the feathers were from the legbar. I have noticed today that she has keeper picking the loose ones out. It is January and she is almost a year old so I don't know weather she is molting or not. I'm sure it is fine but it just seems a bit unusual. Let me know what you think Will
  15. Thanks for the info on straw and red mites I did not know that.
  16. Hi everyone I'm considering building a new coop fir my chickens and getting rid of my eglu. The design I have in kind is a wooden panel on the the bottom and chicken wire above a wooden roof inside a straw floor a nesting box at the corner and a roosting perch I the middle I will try and find a picture. But if anyone van picture it let me know what you think. Will
  17. Hi everyone In the end I decided on a welsummer and a Wheaton maran they seem OK the welsummer seems the most docile the maran seems shy and my small legvar hybrid seems to be on top they have not started to lay yet and I look forward to when they do. This is one of my first forum posts and I'm so so happy with all the replies. So thank yiu very much. I again thank you for your replys. Will Ps I have attached the picture of the new hens ( they are camera shy)
  18. Yes I would prefer to get that but I can't find any used stands and runs.
