  1. Soapdragon I have not been to Highgate! I'm overdue a trip to London so when I do get there I will put it on my "to do" list. I've been to Père Lachaise in Paris a couple of times, mostly I just go to the local ones where my ancestors are. I am fascinated by the connection to my ancestors.
  2. I want to be buried and I want a gravestone, weeping angels even, if finances permit! I like a walk around a cemetery. I have traced some of my family history and found some of my ancestor's graves. Seeing who they are buried with has helped me with my research. It's a comfort to visit them. There are very few photos of me as a child. I was the sixth of seven children. I think by the time it got to me my parents were tired or too busy to take photos. My First Holy Communion photos didn't come out. I never got married. I have no children. Unless I "make my name" somehow before I die I don't feel as if I will leave anything behind to be remembered by. Maybe that is the way it should be? So maybe somewhat selfishly, I do want a gravestone. I like the spike Milligan one (I told you I was ill), very drole. "Nothing lasts really. Neither happiness nor despair. Not even life lasts very long" Probably not that quote really! I will need to give it some thought and put my very specific wishes in place!!
  3. Hi Helena, I've googled a few Elderflower Champagne recipes. The yield seems to correlate to the amount of liquid pretty much on a one to one ratio, so something does seem to be off with your quantities.
  4. Hi, I love seeing your FB updates. So much hard work, but the rewards look fabulous! Cathy x
  5. Hello All, I keep popping on to say hello, but there is too much to catch up on! I've been "staying home", for my own safety, and my loved ones. Definitely no going to the beach etc here! I've been catching up on house work and garden, although both very slowly. I have finally rehomed my Eglu to a dear friend. She will make good use of it I'm sure. I've done more every day cooking, as my OH is busier than ever, and also more baking, but not huge amounts as there is only a few of us to eat it! I hope you are all keeping well, Cathy x x
  6. Do you walk regularly in the UK anyway? I'd like to do the Penine Way but I'm fairly inactive at the moment, I'd need to get myself fitter. I am firmly in the middle aged category. The only pilgrimage type walk I have heard of is the Camino de Santiago.
  7. I've dug out this post from 11 years ago because, finally, we have booked our Hurtigruten trip! We are doing the classic round trip Bergen - Kirkenes - Bergen. I am excited and apprehensive at the same time. Part of my apprehension is that it is nearly 12 months away, and who knows what will happen in that time! Another part of my apprehension is the lack of daylight and the freezing temperatures! x x
  8. I follow Cinnamon's progress on Facebook as they renovate their farm house. So talented and hard working. I realised when I searched I was going to get a lot of results for "cinnamon" on this forum! 🤣 x
  9. and more for football matches too! I've got tickets at the front of the circle for £20 for 2 different plays this year. In comparison to that "from £25" seems a little expensive, but I guess it's not really. We've got 4 excellent theatres in Liverpool. I'd rather go to the theatre than a football match! I have paid circa £60 for concert tickets!
  10. Adam Kay tickets are from £25 at my local theatre. A bit too much for me I think 🤷‍♀️x
  11. I didn't see this post first time around. I'm currently looking at rescue dogs. I'm torturing myself really, the reason I got two cats was because it wasn't practical for me to have a dog. The reasons haven't changed and now I have two cats as well! A colleague mentioned this to me. Unfortunately there are no volunteers needed for dog walking close to me. I thought I'd share with you. Please do have a look at the map under volunteers to see if you can help x
  12. I bought a set of bells and a cow horn on my first skiing trip 35 years ago 😯. I still have them 😁 and I still ski, although last time was 2 or 3 years ago. I will return! x
  13. Happy New Year All! I got back from Thailand on New Years Eve morning so was in bed by 6pm 🤣. The fireworks woke me up at midnight. I wasn't even a little bit tempted to sit up and peek out of the window! Holidays are great but its lovely to come home to my cats and my own bed 😁 I haven't met many omlet forum members. I worked the Tatton show for Omlet way back and I know I met a couple there. It would be nice to meet up at some point. x x
  14. My OH is slightly older than me and has cut down on the nr of days he works. He is able to take more time off than me. For the last few years he has taken holidays without me. His last trip was to Thailand and Laos for nearly a month! I don't get a chance to miss him as he Skype me 3 times a day! Having been on many similar holidays with him, I know his daily routine, and I'm sure he is just the same when I am not with him. He isn't one for partying. There is obviously trust on both sides. I enjoy having evenings to myself whilst he is away, I catch up with friends. Would he go fishing by himself or with a friend whilst you went away somewhere else?
  15. Hi all, I picked some blackberries today. Only a couple of handfuls. I've washed and frozen them. What would you do with them? I noticed my damsons are looking ripe to pick too. What would you do with them? my mum used to make damson jam or damson puree and serve with icecream. That was my favourite. Recipe for damson gin anyone? x x
