  1. Sad news

Dear all long time members of the forum, I am sorry to have to inform you that Debs (Dan's Deb) passed away yesterday. He called me last night and said that he, Harry and Jules were with her and she had fought bravely against cancer. Most of you, I know, are on facebook, but there are a very few Omleteers from the old days who aren't and I thought you would like to know. So sad. They are a lovely family who lived their lives to the full.
  2. Half Term...argh!

Half term for me too, as I'm a teacher, so the usual round of holiday appointments and chores: dentist, optician, haircut, catching up on the washing and ironing, vets for dog booster injections. Despite this, have had a glorious couple of sunshiney days watching my new girls in their fab new run! Happy chicken mummy!
  3. Can I come back now?

Hello all! It seems forever since I have been on here. So much has happened in the last 4 years, but I am beside myself with excitement because.... I finally have a garden of my own again. On Monday I am taking delivery of a walk in run. The yellow eglu has been taken out of storage and jet washed. The purple cube is off to a dear friend in Dorset on loan, and in a week I will be picking up three new girls... An Oxford Brown, a White Leghorn and a Black Sussex. Can I come in and play again?
  4. Have decided initially on hardwood chippings, so will give them a try and see what happens. Ordered them from Flytesofancy, they aren't cheap, but I reckon if they last around 4/5 months, it will be about the same as buying bales of Aubiose anyway. SO excited to get it all made pretty and then watch my new girls trash it within hours!
  5. Hello! Yes! We have also nailed wooden kick boards to the outside, on top of the skirts to stop the chooks from kicking too much of the bark chippings out, which we plan to line the floor with. We are still tossing up whether it should be bark chippings or Aubiose on the ground. When I last had chooks, (in a cube and run with extensions), it was on grass, (read mud), but we had lots of land and were able to just move it around. Now we only have a postage stamp of a garden, I want it to look fairly smart, so figured this is the answer. I will post pictures when we hVe reached the next stage.
  6. Hello all! Over the last two days my wonderful gardener has built a base for my walk in run and built it. He said it was pretty easy to construct, once he had worked out the layers and which bit was which and he said the clips were fiddly, but he has got big hands.... Here it is! I am SO excited. The tarpaulin sounds fantastic, so I'll be looking into that!
  7. Can I come back now?

Koojie? Is that you? Helllooooo! Love Looney's spirally thingy too......
  8. Can I come back now?

And blonde!!! She looks beautiful Claire!
  9. Can I come back now?

Claret! I knew you would still be here! Hope you and Rosie are both well. Last time I saw her, she was a little girl! Bet she is a young woman now!
  10. Fun Hobbies?

That is a very cool hobby! Nothing that good I'm afraid. I have a great admiration for a group of mad knitters who raise money for a Spanish dog rescue, who help a breed of dog, called a Galgo (Spanish greyhound), who are highly mistreated by their hunter owners. This group knits silly hats for dogs and people buy them, take photos of their muts wearing them, post them on a facebook page and have a laugh. I have a long suffering retired racing greyhound who is the humiliated owner of around twenty of these hats..... Bizarre hobby, I know.
  11. Can I come back now?

Wow! Looney! ANH! Olly! Cooperwife! Egluntyne! Redhotchick! Charlottechicken! Lewis! and of course.. Christian (haven't seen you or heard from you for at least erm... a week??) Lovely welcome back, thank you! I guess Facebook has taken a few of us off to pastures new, but this IS the place to talk chickens etc, so its good to be back! And great to see so many familiar names popping up! I have a TINY garden now, but got a landscaper coming tomorrow to prepare the corner for the eglu and walk-in run (also due tomorrow), so will be sure to post pictures in the right section as soon as its up and running. Does anyone else have an Omlet walk-in run on here? I also have the old eglu run and extension, which I will need to get rid of, if anyone is interested.
  12. Can I come back now?

Thanks Liz. I know the Omleteers are a fab bunch. I was a mod on here for a couple of years, and as you can see, posted quite a lot. Just was too painful to be on here for a while, missing my chickens and a huge life change. It will be interesting to see who is still around from 2005!
  13. Invitations.................

Eek! She sounds horrid! Invite her to something she will hate... A classical music concert, a scrabble evening, cake baking demo....Presumably, she will feel obliged to accept!
  14. Forum rankings - anyone in the 10000+ club?

Absolutely not! Watch out, he'll wave his moderator wand at you if you cast such nasturtiums.......
  15. Forum rankings - anyone in the 10000+ club?

Now THERE'S a challenge! Lesley, I remember the topics, apart from chickens (of course), mainly centred around pants, chocolate, pants, cake, crocs, Simon's pants and erm.... Pants!
  16. Forum rankings - anyone in the 10000+ club?

Hello all! I was a Mod for a while, and boy does it wrack up the posts! There are still lots of people around from when I joined in 2005, which is lovely! I have made some true friends through this forum, real friends, not just "cyber" ones. One is now known as my "Sis", and I regularly see three others. I suppose it has changed inasmuch that there are so many more Omleteers now! I feel like a stranger when I pop on these days! I remember one very keen (and lovely), young new user, a few years ago, who decided he was going to do his best to become champion poster and he used to reply to everything with just a smiley or one word... I also remember a discussion in the mods about whether the posts from years gone by should be deleted, in order to save space on the server, and we decided that it would possibly cause upset when people saw their post tally culled in that way! I have to admit, it is lovely to pop on, once in a blue moon, like I now do, and still see my post count! Makes me feel like I still belong! Happy posting everyone!
  17. He has gone on my fb page too Claire. Now I am the proud owner of an ex racing greyhound, I dread him being stolen.
  18. Chinese New Year

That is really interesting bluekarin! I too am a rooster, and my OH is an ox. We are perfectly compatible it seems: however, my ex was a monkey, and he too, was supposedly a perfect match........ Maybe I can just get on with anyone?(or have no discernment whatsoever!)
  19. Knives

I think I would take them to the local tip and put them in the metal recycling. Presumably, being metal, the people who sort it would be already wary of sharp or jagged pieces of metal, so it would pose no risk? At my local tip, the people who work there are really helpful. I am sure they would advise.
  20. Urgent ideas for a couple

Hope you have a lovely evening, whatever you decide!
  21. Dogmother/Rosie's accident

Claire, I can't remember the last time I came on here, but I am glad I did. My love to you and Rosie. I am in Oxford now, literally 10 mins from the hospital, so if you want to escape for a coffee, or anything, let me know. I will pm you my phone number. Hoping Rosie will be able to go home very quickly. Hospitals are such horrid places!
  22. Does anyone Wobble?

Yes, me meee, I do! Always looked very torturous. I saw these wobble jobbies at Grand designs last year, and yes, lots of men hanging around watching the demonstrations.. I would be afraid to get on one. I might cause a Tsunami if I started wobbling. (or fall off it trying to do something beyond my appalling co-ordination and balance skill level). I suppose you could just try it out for a month and see.
  23. Anyone been to terminal 5??!!

Well done! I hate going to new places: Its always fear of annoying other drivers if you are in the wrong lane etc and them being impatient with you when you make a mistake isn't it? And I HATE being late, so nearly always set off far too early and then have to sit around somewhere. Sounds like you managed this journey to perfection though!
  24. Airline Companies

What a great idea! Regardng the size limits for cabin baggage, I don't mind at all, otherwise it would get ridiculous with people trying to cram too much into an already overcrowded cabin, but I do think it is quite ironic how there is a limit/fine on weight of luggage, whereas there are no weight penalties for passengers! I once sat next to a man who was so large, he totally encroached on my space and I was hemmed in by him for the whole, unpleasant journey. Having said that, someone I knew used to have to book business class as she wouldn't fit in the normal seats. I am, nevertheless, glad they don't weigh us at check in too...
