  1. I got 6 new ex batts on Saturday. They are getting used to new routines. The first day my husband worked from home and put them to bed. I came home early tonight and had to put them to bed. Tomorrow I am worried because my husband and I can't get back before 5.30 it makes me feel sick thinking about them standing in the cold and dark. Does anyone have any tips of how to get them to go into their house independently. Thank you:)
  2. Rest in peace Olive who was a lovely, happy chicken. Slowly losing all the first generation chickens.
  3. In memory of my lovely chicken Joan who fought so hard but sadly died this evening. She brought us so much happiness and was an extremely special chicken. You will be greatly missed.
  4. ooooohhhhhh I've read that and really enjoyed it -must find where I put it and have a reread.
  5. thank you for your replies - vvvv long story how we ended up with these chicks, to put it briefly we have had dealings with a vvv dodgy chicken man. It would not surprise me if they are all boys. We have a home for the chicks if they turn out to be boys but I'm desperate for at least some girls that we can keep after the expense, effort and love that has gone into them. Fingers crossed -that is the risk you take for cute chicks I suppose!
  6. Hello We have been raising some chicks which we think are 5/6 weeks old. We have no clue what breed of chickens they are or whether they are boys or girls. I attatch links to some pictures that might be helpful. We have not named them yet till we know what sex they are. Chick 2 and 4 have feathery trousers and feathers on their feet. They are supposed to be Bantams but chick 1 seems pretty big! Any help appreciated Thank you http://i812.photobucket.com/albums/zz49/uwalakab/CHICK1.jpg http://i812.photobucket.com/albums/zz49/uwalakab/CHICK2.jpg http://i812.photobucket.com/albums/zz49/uwalakab/CHICK3.jpg http://i812.photobucket.com/albums/zz49/uwalakab/CHICK4.jpg Hope the pictures work as have never attatched photos before !
  7. I'm up for joining in. Am petrified as am sure will be rubbish, but with scary credity crunch and a habit of spend spend spend instead of save save save want to break my habit.
  8. Thank you to all those who gave me advice. They have started turning red. I'm so excited
  9. Just a little update and another question. The bottom of the plant is looking a little healthier -phew!!! I am still worried about the tomatoes at the top. This old boy on our road is amazing and he inspired me to get started. I had tomatoes on my plant way before his but his are now starting to go red but mine are still green. His are light green where mine are dark green like a pepper. Do you think they have just given up? I never knew you could get so obsessive about veg growing.
  10. Hello I'm brand spanking new on here -so hello everyone. I have started a veg corner in my garden for the first time this year. I have no clue what I'm doing but I'm totally loving it. Up to this point i have been so proud of my tomato plants. I have a yellow one and an alicante - does that make sense? They were so healthy with loads of flowers and baby toms. Sadly i had to go on holiday for two weeks. I left them in the charge of a plant sitter. When I have come back all the leaves have wilted and some have dried out. The soil is totally sodden. I have removed all the dead leaves and have added more compost to sort the soil out. Is there anything i could do to save them? Thank you
