  2. Sorry but it's just what I read, I doubt she would lie about how her dog died.
  3. Please remember to wash your cat or dogs feet after they have been outside. Road grit contains antifreeze, a friends dog died from liver failure after licking her feet when she was walked over gritted areas.
  4. They are now in the compost bin, the shells had cracked during freezing. The bin is producing heat so they could of possibly hatched if I hadn't of froze them.
  5. They're no longer viable after freezing. I have to make sure my girls weights are perfect and being over or under weight can cause them to become egg bound, pandora will only lay if the soil is atleast 10 inches deep and is 32°c
  6. They're great animals, very worrying when you find them on their backs. Spur thighs are great, Sulcata are also known as African spur thighed I've also had horsfields in the past too.
  7. Thank you. I have just the 8 for now, 7 Hermanns and a leopard tortoise. Once they have an outdoor set up (heated sheds, maybe a greenhouse and a large run) I will hopefully be having a Sulcata tortoise (third largest species in the world)
  8. today one of my adult hermanns tortoise laid 3 eggs. I wont be incubating them as i dont want to be over run with hatchlings lol. i have decided to freeze them as they can hatch even at low temperatures. 4 months ago the babies were in eggs of the same size, as you can see in that time they have grown quite a bit Thanks for looking
  9. some fish have been known to happily live swimming upside down. it could be something wrong with the swim bladder.
  10. Its amazing how well this cat has adapted having no pelvis and only 2 legs http://www.care2.com/causes/cute-animal-videos-of-the-day-anakin-the-two-legged-kitten.html
  11. Thanks. Need to go to the vets today to see how much microchipping costs as i need to micro chips the tortoises before i can update their papers It'll cost between £15 & £45 per tortoise to get microchipped, i need to get 8 done, and then to update the Defra cites A10 certificates will cost £25 per tortoise and i need to get 7 of those as hermann tortoises are on the endangered list. Leopard tortoises dont require a certificate as theyre not endangered, they dont even need to be micro chipped but im going to just incase she is ever stolen.
  12. Thanks everyone I used to watch a programme called Hex and there was a book called the Book of Orakiah and i just liked the name lol
  13. Thanks Well after my first chick died I was devastated, then lady lay died and I took it quite hard she died in my arms, she also died on the anniversary of my cats sudden death so I told my mum after Orakiah I'm not having anymore as I didn't think I would get that upset over chickens. But we had to get another because Orakiah was lonely. Once Orakiah went to rainbow bridge we gave my cousin Astrid, she is now living with ducks, hens, cockerels, chicks and is even "married" to a little Serama lol I might one day get back into chicken keeping but not any time soon, I miss having them.
  14. Found this picture of Orakiah, one of my hens now at Rainbow bridge
  15. a few dog forums im on all hate bakers dog food, apparently its just the same as feeding them cardboard. when my border collie went off her food we mixed James well beloved with real beef gravy, that got her eating again we also mixed in some salmon.
  16. Fridges should be between 6oc and 3oc a lot of people use them to hibernate tortoises in as they reach the perfect temperature for hibernation.
  17. it was a pain lol, i used a whole can of wd40 my mum wasnt impressed lol. have bought some new bolts and a run cover for it today!
  18. haha Border terriers are great, i have one I used a Hova-bator incubator set at 32oc and 75% humidity and upped it to 85% when they started to hatch. Pandora has laid a total of 11 eggs and only 4 of them ended up fertile since september 2010. Female tortoises can lay fertile eggs for up to 3 years after 1 successful mating!! Dont think ill incubate again till after i can get them an outdoor shed and run sorted....would end up with loads of the creatures lol
  19. Thanks everyone and yep its me that has Squirt Shes gotten massive now, 13 inches long and 10lbs in weight and is still growing.
  20. Well after 4 hours yesterday i decided to buy some locking pliers, 20 minutes later i managed to get them off.
  21. Not been on here for ages lol sadly i no longer have any chooks as my first hen Orakiah had to be PTS back in september so i rehomed my other hen to my cousin that has countless ducks and chooks. she is now "married" to a Serama bantam lol i do have some good news though, in august one of my tortoises laid 4 eggs and on september 21st they started to hatch. pictures can be seen here http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=91690 my aunt and uncle have also given me their 10 year old female hermanns so that brings the total upto 8 tortoises now lol. oh and ive also moved house again, ive moved from the lovely Llandudno back to norton canes in the west midlands
