  1. Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, anyone who owns or cares for an animal has the legal responsibility to ensure that they meet the 5 basic welfare needs of the animal. These are also known as the Five Freedoms. Freedom from hunger and thirst By providing enough fresh water and the right type and amount of food to keep them fit. Freedom from discomfort By making sure that animals have the right type of environment including shelter and somewhere comfortable to rest. Freedom from pain, injury and disease By preventing them from getting ill or injured and by making sure animals are diagnosed and treated rapidly if they do. Freedom to express normal behaviour By making sure animals have enough space, proper facilities and the company of other animals of their own kind. Freedom from fear and distress By making sure their conditions and treatment avoid mental suffering. Please remember that it is your responsibility as the owner to seek veterinary advice and to give appropriate treatment if your hen is ill. In certain emergencies, it is in the hen’s best interests to be culled immediately. The opinions and advice on this forum are freely given, and with the best of intentions, but are not those of professionals, therefore they do not constitute a diagnosis or replace the expert opinion of a vet. Also, there are certain situations when home remedies will not suffice, ie if the hen is emaciated and anorexic, is paralysed or is coughing and has runny eyes and nose. It is recommended that veterinary advice is sought in these cases. It is not legally acceptable, nor is it humane to leave a sick hen undiagnosed for days to see if it will perk up. Neither is it legally acceptable or humane to leave a moribund hen to slip away, untreated. If in doubt, please see the Animal Welfare Act. Linked above. What have you all been making?

Hello everyone This thread has been edited as it has been brought to the attention of the moderating team that people have been using it to advertise wares that they are intending to sell at craft fairs, or are similar to items they have for sale on personal websites that they have linked in their signatures. Both these activities are in breach of the forum rules. Any further posts along these lines will be removed. Repeat offenders may receive warnings. Thank you for your co-operation. Jerry
  3. Sockpuppeting … This is the act of creating multiple forum accounts to support or defend a member's own ‘cause’ or to flame another member who happens not to have agreed with a particular point of view, and to send abusive private messages to such members. Please note that it is against forum rules for members to have multiple accounts. Unfortunately, there have been several recent instances of this conduct on the Omlet forum. Please be aware that the moderating team can see which IP addresses members post from, and can identify which members are posting from the same address. From now on, when this happens, we may have to consider banning the IP address of the misused account, which will have the effect of rendering the original account, or indeed, innocent members of the same household unable to post on the forum. Serious breaches may result in the member's service provider being notified.
  4. A MESSAGE TO ALL FORUM USERS. It has come to the Admin. team's attention that, despite the forum guidelines, some users are persisting in advertising their products for sale. This will no longer be tolerated & any comments about selling, or encouraging other forum members to contact you with a view to buy, will be removed & the poster issued with a warning, which may result in their account being suspended. Members are also therefore asked not to post questions on the forum about items for sale. The Admin. team have also considered removing the Crafty Fingers area, which would be a great shame as its a helpful area to show off your home made items when not for personal gain. As always, a discreet weblink is allowed in your signature, but this must not be referred to in your posts. If uncertain, please contact me or one of the mod. team. Jerry (site admin)
