  1. The Weather Thread #9

Just 8 degrees here this morning, but going to be another lovely day.
  2. Chicken Memorials

If you've had a much loved chicken die and would like to leave a little memorial in this topic, please feel free to do so here. Photographs, memories, anything you like but we'll leave sympathy messages out if you don't mind, so that the topic doesn't become too diluted and remains just a nice place to remember lost hens. Posts about chickens who have passed on will be moved into this section in due course......after 48 hours.
  3. Eglu Go Up plus frame and ladder for sale

All done guys, thanks. Moved to the for sale section and username changed :0)
  4. The other topic was getting too long and this slows the forum down. I have locked it now, so feel free to start again here... Thanks
  5. So how is the season so far?

Will do! Iucky that the boundary fence along side is sloes and brambles so i do get some protection from the marauding deer!
  6. So how is the season so far?

It has been rabbit proofed but deer fencing is too expensive. I'm lucky that I have a corner plot. There is a huge hedge down one side plus I fence in the rest of the plot to stop the Terrier escaping. I'm lucky that the deer rarely come into my plot. They've had the chard, beetroot tops and kale but during the summer, everything else is left alone.....
  7. Himalayan Salt Lamp

Correct DM. Think it takes up too much space on the server.
  8. Leave Chicken door open?!

I always leave the door open to the Eglu. I work away from home a couple of nights per week (I have a walk in run with roof) and the hens are fine. When it is really cold, I ask my neighbour to close the door but the Eglu is in a sheltered spot and the hens seem fine.
  9. So how is the season so far?

My Jerusalem artichokes are still going strong, but it's looks like deer have discovered the kale Need to spend a few days at the lottie to get everything cleared up, but it's daunting. I'll get there....
  10. So how is the season so far?

I pruned my black currants last week (2 months late ) Haven’t really had time or the energy to go to the Lottie this year. Have move time off in March so need to pull my finger out and start digging. The hens appreciated the kale I picked for them and I still have onions hanging up in the shed, which look ok.
  11. Speckled eggs or not..?

I've had my new speckledy hen for a couple of months. The eggs are always darker than the Sussex hybrid and two bluebelles. They always have specks on them...
  12. Nice lip moisturiser recommendations please.

I *cough* never use lip balm, but have one in every pocket, bag, allotment shed, car etc. Usually the black chapstick, green 'Hallo Vera' tin but the BEST one is Nipple balm for lips by Dr Lipp. £9 a tube, but you need 1mm from the tube, it stays on for hours and one tube has lasted me 9+ months. It's in my waistcoat pocket for work as my lips really dry out when I'm flying (my job).
  13. So how is the season so far?

I've only really been down to the lottie to harvest bits and bobs. I've covered the carrots in straw and fleece, taken the cages off the sprouts and cut down all the raspberry canes. One of the plot holders works at a mushroom farm, so gave me several bales of spent compost. That has all been spread around the raspberries and a couple of other beds for next year. I really need to repaint the shed, but running out of time and it's been so wet. Onions are all dry and stored in boxes in the conservatory. Beetroot in soil in boxes too, but not doing too well. I might roast, then freeze them. The deer that have raided the allotments have finally found my little corner plot and ate all my chard. The hens won't be happy this winter but I've covered it with plastic cloches and it's reshooting, so hopefully it'll be ok. The turnips and swedes weren't touched and are doing well. Parnsips (all 5 of them ) are ok! Need to plan for next year now *excitedly gets the seed catalogues out*
  14. If you email Matt@omlet.co.uk he might be able to help.
  15. What have you all been making...part two...

It's done and the wrist is healing nicely thanks!
  16. What have you all been making...part two...

I haven't posted for ages here, but I'm still crafty Managed to fracture my wrist (tint fracture, no plaster), but still managed to sew a quilt Here it is, not quite finished, but laid out, ready to pin together to quilt -
  17. So how is the season so far?

My runners and birlotto beans are only just starting g to crop! Pulled all my red and white onions and I too am waiting for the frosts for my 5 parsnips. Been pulling beetroot all summer now, I love it. Ive been collecting a basket like this most days. Really satisfying.
  18. So how is the season so far?

I pulled 6 cobs today and ate 3! I usually plant Swift and don't mix varieties. They were really slow to start this year, but in the past month have gon mental. Still have 15+ cobs to pick I sowed directly into the soil this year as forgot to sow in pots, but there doesn't seem to be a difference. After the slugs ate the first 4 sowing of beetroot, the last sowing is now ready for harvest. I need to get some sand to store them in, also to store the carrots. Beans are poor this year, raspberries are like a weed. I've picked 15 lbs so far. Was at work for 6 days so couldn't get to the lottie and have lost another 3 lbs as they've gone over. Have made 30 jars of raspberry jam so far, with more fruits forming I LOVE raspberry jam.
  19. Not rude Mrs B. The moderator explained that there is already a thread running about the new cube, otherwise we have several threads On the same topic.
  20. So how is the season so far?

A couple of my red onions have set seed I have lost out of the number of various needs I have sown this year at the lottie. At least 4 lots of squashes and pumpkins, as the slugs keep eating them. All my parsnips, chard, spinach and beets have been eaten, along with the bean seedlings. Had enough of the slugs now and might get nematodes if I can afford it for the lottie.....
  21. Blueberries

I have a couple at the allotment, small bushes but doing well. I planted the in a deep hole in the ground and mixed in acid soil. They seem to like it there. I will top dress the soil every now and again to keep it acidic and add one needles as a mulch as I heard that was good for them.
  22. Don't leave me this waaay!!!!

I was always taught that Politics, salaries and religion were a private matter and should't be discussed I am sick to death of the referendum, my FB is covered in it, with friends at each others throat over the whole thing. I don't trust the media at all. Everything is twisted and portrayed the way 'they' want you to read it. TV, newspapers, even my FB 'sponsored' feed is telling me to vote one way. It's my decision and I have voted. End of.
  23. Anyone hear from old omleteers

I wouldn't say 'pester' The restraining order hasn't arrived yet then......?
  24. Posting problems?

Is anyone having problems posting on the forum? If so, could you please send a screen shot of the error message to Tom@Omlet.co.uk with your forum name, please! Many thanks
  25. Mealworms, Cheap!

Earwigs? I get mine on eBay and pay around £10 for a huge bag that lasts months. (Dried meal worms, not earwigs)
