  1. If you leave it that late you'll miss him. Look south west at 5:24 PM to be more precise - he'll be visible for about 4 minutes from then as he climbs into the sky; then again at 7:00 PM for the next lap around (second pass is much lower and less visible).
  2. Schweppes make a mixer for vodka called Russchian which is very good on its own
  3. Have had a K-Mix bowl mixer for a few years ago. Wouldn't be without it. As pointed out above it is both cheaper and more powerful that the KitchenAid Artisan ones - I think they only became popular as a result of them being used on GBBO. Bought the matching hand whisk and kettle as well, all have been without fault. John Lewis currently have the K-Mix on offer at £260 (in all the solid colours) with a free matching blender http://www.johnlewis.com/kenwood-kmix-kmx54-stand-mixer-and-blx54-blender-black/p234014801#tabinfo-spcl-offr
  4. We installed an Ikea kitchen about 6 years ago. No issues at all; however, we did our own design. We only used the free software to visualise what it would look like, then did our own plans (OH used to be a draughtsman). We then made our own templates for the granite work tops and sourced those separately. Built it and installed it all ourselves. Ikea do use thicker material for the cupboard carcasses than most and we have found them very durable. We went for the higher end for the doors and used the solid oak ones, again very durable. The whole cost came in at less than half that of an equivalent one from Magnet, when we eventually got a quote out of them...
  5. Can't recommend a particular type, although searching Amazon by customer review is usually useful. One thing I would say is to check whether it has inbuilt memory or uses a memory card. Card is generally better as you can put that into a computer to load the pictures, but you need to have a PC card reader that matches the type used in the photo frame. If it has a card reader, check whether it comes with a card (and if it does, what size is it). Inbuilt memory may need wi-fi, bluetooth or usb lead connection to the PC and will probably only hold about 10 photos. Some which come supplied with cards may only be small capacity, plus the quality of cards varies enormously. I tend to stick to SanDisc or Kingston memory cards, they both have a good reputation. Unfortunately, a £50 budget may limit your choices a bit.
  6. Enzo finally stalled a couple of days ago, so has been popped into his hibernation box today. Checked his weight (which we do quite frequently) and - at 2.077 kg - he's the heaviest he's even been at hibernation. See you in the spring, Enzo!
  7. Enzo sounds very similar to Kevin. Free ranges round our secure garden (all brick walls) all summer, comes in at night this time of year. He stomps around the house rearranging furniture until he runs down. Poop is not pleasant, but also not frequent, and not too bad on tiled floors (unless you happen to step in it). He knows better than we do when the time comes, but you can bet he won't vary by more than a few days year to year when it comes to bedtime.
  8. ...as is Enzo. Not for much longer though, but the looks of it.
  9. Someone I know had some useful advice on this subject, just had to look it up (we don't have a cat, BTW, and never will...) How To Give Your Cat A Pill 1) Pick up cat and cradle it in the crock of your left arm as if holding a baby. Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of the cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As cat opens mouth, pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow. 2) Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process. 3) Retrieve cat from bedroom and throw soggy pill away. 4) Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm while holding rear paws tightly with left hand Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut for a count of ten. 5) Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe. Retrieve spouse from outside. 6) Kneel on floor with cat wedged firmly between knees. Hold front and rear paws. Ignore low growls emitted by cat. Get spouse to hold hear firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth. Drop pill down ruler and rub cat's throat vigorously. 7) Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from foil wrap. Make note buy new ruler and repair curtains. Carefully sweep shattered figurines and vases from hearth and set to one side for gluing later. 8 ) Wrap cat in large towel and get spouse to lie on cat with head just visible from below armpit. Put pill in end of drinking straw, force mouth open with pencil and blow down drinking straw. 9) Check label to make sure pill is not harmful to humans. Drink one beer to take taste away. Apply Band-Aid to spouse's forearm and remove blood from carpet with cold water and soap. 10) Retrieve cat from neighbour's shed. Get another pill. Open another beer. Place cat in cupboard and close door on neck to leave head showing. Force mouth open with dessert spoon. Flick pill down throat with elastic band. 11) Fetch screwdriver from garage and put cupboard door back on hinges. Drink beer. Fetch bottle of scotch. Pour shot of scotch and drink. Apply cold compress to cheek and check record for date of last tetanus shot. Apply whisky compress to cheek to disinfect. Toss back another shot. Throw shirt away and fetch new one from bedroom. 12) Call fire department to retrieve cat from across the road. Apologize to neighbour who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat. Take last pill from foil wrap. 13) Tie the little ^@'s front legs to rear legs with garden twine and bind tightly to leg of dining table. Find heavy duty pruning gloves from shed. Push pill into mouth followed by large piece of steak. Be rough about it. Hold cat's head vertically and pour two pints of water down throat to wash pill down. 14) Consume remainder of scotch. Get spouse to drive you to A&E. Sit quietly while doctor stitches fingers and forearm and removes pill remnants from right eye. Call furniture shop on way home to order new table. 15) Arrange for RSPCA to collect mutant cat from hell and call local pet shop to see if they have any hamsters. How To Give Your Dog A Pill 1) Wrap pill in bacon. 2) Toss it in the air. Which is why we have a dog...
  10. Aah, therein lies the problem. You watch one music video and 3 hous later, you're watching a tutorial about how to talk to giraffes...
  11. Here's a little song, courtesy of Weird Al Yankovich, that most people who enjoy correcting grammar will enjoy (even if he did spell familiarise with a Z). ...and for those who rely on spellcheckers... Eye halve a spelling chequer It came with my pea sea It plainly marques four my revue Miss steaks eye kin knot sea. Eye strike a key and type a word And weight four it two say Weather eye am wrong oar write It shows me strait a weigh. As soon as a mist ache is maid It nose bee fore two long And eye can put the error rite Its rare lea ever wrong. Eye have run this poem threw it I am shore your pleased two no Its letter perfect awl the weigh My chequer tolled me sew.
  12. I think you'll find that white mice and dolphins are definitely ahead of us on the evolutionary scale...
  13. What is wrong with people?!!!! Why would anyone of sane mind want to do such a thing? Public support has been huge, fortunately, the public have rallied around - over £500,000 donated in 15 hours. It's things like this and what's happening in other parts of the world that make me fear for the future of humans as a species.
  14. Not that we ever found... Even had eggs roll off the bars and out of the door on a couple of occasions. To be fair, most eggs did finish up in the hollow, with or without the bedding. By the time we were down to the one chook, the bedding hardly moved at all.
  15. Just a thought, but would adhesive anti-slip tape as is normally used on stairs in factories help with this problem? Link to some on Amazon below, but I would suspect builders merchants would keep it. Spiral wrap in round the rungs like wrapping a racquet handle? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sylglas-ASTBL-Anti-Slip-Tape-50mm/dp/B001EJ1KDW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1409909228&sr=8-2&keywords=anti+slip+tape
  16. Blackberries have been good again this year, but seem to have been ripening even earlier than normal. Keeping an eye on the local sloe supplies as well.
  17. How about the one where Princess Leia is really a 6ft 5in, 53 year old bloke... More like Chewbacca than Princess Leia, really. It didn't start off that way, of course. I set the account up for Diane when we got the Eglu and chooks originally, but she found that forum posting wasn't her thing, so I took over writing on her behalf. I just try and write it as if it were her, which has given me a whole new perspective on things. Alan.
  18. Came home yesterday, went to let Poppy out to FR and found her dead in the Eglu house She was just laid down in the nest area, nothing obvious and had been quite happy earlier in the morning. RIP Poppy, May 2011 - 28/08/14

  20. We had a similar problem with our first collie-cross rescue about 20 years ago. We were told to restrict his space whilst he was alone, which we did - he basically stayed in his bed in the downstairs toilet overnight and when we went out. That worked; apparently dogs won't intentionally soil their own beds, so restricting the available non-bed floor area is the trick. This was before the days of dog crates, which would probably be the way to do it now?
  21. Agree with the above, wrap the stems in cling film. Also, don't keep them with apples - Apple skin emits ethylene gas which accelerates ripening.
  22. Sad news, if not totally unexpected as he'd been ill for a while. Another loss to the film industry. Strength to his family in this time of loss, especially to Sir David.
  23. Strange thing... In the last week we have had, on two separate occasions, a mouse fall in and drown in the water. Obviously trying to reach down to drink and slipped in I would have though the plastic were rough enough for a mouse to climb out, but obviously not.
  24. We've had a black Rangemaster Elan 110 for about 8 years and love it. On that, the grill is above the standard oven and below the hob. I'm 5ft 2 and DH is 6ft 5 and we both get on OK with it. Have never had any problems with it and have just last week replaced both grill elements with new ones - first thing it's needed (apart from cleaning )
