I just let them get on with it; I turf them out every now and then for food, drink and a quick dust bath

The only way to keep them out is to keep the door shut

Cardboard boxes with plenty of air holes, lined with straw...being in the dark keeps them calm

I would buy small bags of Ex-Batt Pellets and Ex-Batt Mash or Crumb...our Ex-Batts didn't recognise the mash and ate nothing at first until I swapped it for pellets
