  1. Two of my older bantam girls have died within the space of a few weeks, leaving little Priscilla alone and lonely!!! Does anyone have any ideas about an older hen sanctuary so to speak, or does anyone have any ideas? Am hesitant to bring any new hens in. Thanks!!!
  2. One of my girls has been laying soft, shell-less eggs for about 3 weeks, and today I noticed that she was limping and trying not to put pressure on her right leg. Does anyone know what this could mean? Thanks
  3. I've just seen a fox grab one of my girls whilst they were free ranging in the garden, managed to run down and scare it off, and he dropped her, but am worried about any injuries she may have incurred. She has only lost two feathers and seems a bit dishevelled, but she does not appear to have any obvious injuries. Does anyone have any tips or ideas how to best keep her comfortable/calm to ensure that she recovers from the shock? They are safely back in the eglu now!! Thanks
  4. I saw that I was on their wesbite http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2465288/Fox-Wars--BBC-documentary-reveals-Britains-urban-foxes-divided-nation.html, but I have'nt seen the actual magazine article! Did anyone get it? I did You are on page 15, but they have spelt your name Sofia and sat with 3 chickens, maybe 4 and a pink and a purple grub/glug. I can send you the page if you would like it. Thank you - that would be great!! I have PM'd you my address. Thanks again x
  5. I saw that I was on their wesbite http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2465288/Fox-Wars--BBC-documentary-reveals-Britains-urban-foxes-divided-nation.html, but I have'nt seen the actual magazine article! Did anyone get it?
  6. Haha, I hope you all enjoy it! My name's Sofia and I'm the neighbour of the man who feeds the foxes in North London!
  7. Hi everyone, Just thought I'd share with you that I'm featuring in a BBC1 documentary next Tuesday 22nd at 10.35pm called Fox Wars about foxes in suburban gardens! You'll see me and my chickens Let me know what you think!
  8. I love this part the most; "Quilted lining featuring Flectalon NASA approved insulating material" Just in case my pekins decide to head to the moon!
  9. Hi guys, Two of my pekins have been broody for 12 weeks (Ages i know!) and have finally stopped! I was just wondering when they would start to lay again? Also, its so strange how as soon as two of them come off, my best layer Martha starts to sit on the next all day! Ahhh...
  10. Ah, that makes sense, I currently have 2 broodies, just didnt think it was them because it was in the run. Hopefully my other two aren't going to start, its been ongoing with 2 of them for 8 weeks!!! Thanks
  11. Hi guys, I know this is really gross, but one of my (tiny) pekins has done an odd poo...It is the size of dog/cat poo, and smells as bad! Any suggestions as to what this could be?? I'm curious because one of them has stopped laying over the past couple of days so wondered if there was a link. Thanks
  12. Hi everyone, Am moving the girls to the new garden on Sunday, along with their eglu go and run. I plan to dismantle the run and put that in our van, but should I keep the girls in their eglu from during the night? or is it best to move them in to a cardboard box? The journey is only 10 minutes, but they'd have to stay in their whilst we take the run down and put it back together, Any suggestions? Thanks
  13. One of my five lovely pekins just passed away She seemed a bit lethargic for the past couple of days, I kept an eye on her, gave her yoghurt, poultry spice, and everything else that I read was meant to be helpful, but this evening at 10pm I went to shut the Eglu door, and found her lying seemingly lifeless in the run. I managed to get her out and she was breathing, took her inside and put her in a cardboard box with hay, but she was completely still, with her head low and eyes shut, breathing slowly. I rung the emergency vet service, who were asking for £190 for a call-out. I decided to try the RSPCA, but whilst I was waiting to get put through, she took her last breath and passed away. I'm so gutted. These are my first chickens and I wish I could have done more to help her Can anyone advise me on whether I should take any precautions with the other 4 remaining girls? And do you think the eggs I've had from this week are safe to eat still? No idea what it could have been. Thanks
  14. Thanks for that, just had a look on the argos website, what size crate did you get? Thanks
