Why do my electrical goods always break down at Christmas?

If you buy the new transformers and they fix the problem, take the laptops back as you can prove the the goods they have supplied are not fit for purpose. They've had ample opportunity to correct the problem and haven't so claim a refund for the laptops and the new transformers too.

 

Thay way it makes no difference if they were bought for business or not.

 

Technically it could be classed as a dangerous fault as it trips the electrics, having a sparky friend "safety test" the unit to prove it faulty may help back up the point, not that you should need it by that point.

Andrew- my friend had a new fridge freezer delivered a few weeks ago while I was there at her house. It was a local firm, who said they had no room to take away the packaging, but they were taking away her old FF. I suggested that she put the packaging into the old FF, which she did & the men then took away the old FF with the new one's packaging inside it 8)

 

We were without hot water & central heating for 11 days until last Wednesday, the pump on the heating had gone. Having hot water now is a luxury, & we really appreciate something that we would usually take for granted.

I completely agree! A week was bad enough and because I have to look presentable for work I had to get up every morning and hubby boiled the kettle - put the water in a bucket and take it back upstairs and wash my hair over the bath!

 

its so nice to be able to have the heating on and turn on the hot tap now :)

After the floods and two weeks without water, it was a double blessing to get running water :lol:

 

I remember the hell we had after moving in here, two days later the heating packed up - 5 weeks on we had it up and running but we were both near naked as it was so hot. Turned out one of the new parts sent the water from the boiler to the tank, radiators or both and as it was slightly different they accidentally put it on the wrong way round.

 

It was trying to heat the house to 70C and the hot water to 21C :lol:

 

No wonder it was like the tropics :roll:

We had problems last year - December 23rd and the room thermostat died on the central heating. £20 bought a new one and just as CTB finished fitting it he said "I think I just felt a drip of water on my shoulder".

 

Sure enough there was water dripping though the ceiling where the hot water tank had split - emergency plumber, two days before Christmas! ££££££££££ :cry:

 

Am holding my breathe this year :roll:

Right, you have all spurred me on to get something done about it,although it might have to wait until after Christmas :roll:

Apparantly ,& I have checked this, the business sales contract is different to the personal/hone one.Its there in balck & white on the site & our invoice.

Even when you have had several repairs & the things still don't work,the offer of a refund is down to the store managers discretion :?

 

Its going to take me going into the store & speaking to them,as you cannot get put through to the store by their switchboard number nor are any store numbers available for the public to phone.

the customer services are worse than useless & just say you need to speak to the manager.

 

Last time I went in, to drop them off for repair I was kept waiting for nearly 40 minutes :roll:

I think there's Christmas gremlins about fiddling with our things you know! :think:

 

We've all been having problems with Sky and Sky+ around here as well Chelsea.

 

They have changed something via their software down the phone line which turns the box off instead of being on standby - Carl spoke to an incredibly rude person when he phoned :twisted: - and he wouldn't admit that that is what is happening :roll:

 

Our problem is that we frequently lose signal and the planner won't record anything - and I now can't tell whether it is not functioning or has just turned off. I don't leave it on stanby overnight and turn it on in the morning. You can go into the services and change it back to how it used to be.

It's not just you. My central heating is shooting out boiling water through the overflow twice a day nearly killing my neighbours, my washing machine is broken and I just had to replace the belt on the tumble dryer. The broadband is down and my shed roof blew off over the weekend.

 

Chickens are fine and all back in lay. They are the good news at the moment.

Update**

 

Chap came and unravelled red postmans elastic band from around filter mechanism.

 

He attempted to charge me £50 as he reckoned it wasn't covered by the warranty.

 

I told him that I wasn't going to pay. Nothing personal etc but I had followed all the rigmarole suggested by them three times and hadn't been able to get it going....and as I pointed out to him...he had to go back to his van to get what looked suspiciously like a pair of curved surgical forceps to unravel it....so it was a specialised job requiring specialised tools. :lol:

 

I rang Cole Brothers (John Lewis) and explained the saga, and the lovely lady (Marie)investigated, rang me back within 10 mins and said that JLP would pay on this occasion.

 

Result.

 

In all honesty I have never been less than impressed with Coles Bros.

 

Even though it is now JLP, it has kept its family feel.

 

No wonder Richard Hawley called his album Coles Corner. :lol:

I was hoping that I wouldn't have to reply to update the problems with my FF from John Lewis but it's still not been sorted this end.

 

They haven't rung me back when they said they would, told me that the relevant department shuts at 8pm, yesterday told 6pm and today informed its 5pm. :evil:

 

They were to ring me on my mobile before 2pm today, not a problem but I had to go to Makro this afternoon - still no phonecall so dashed through the door at 1745 and got on the phone, but there was a voicemail message - they called the house phone at 1413 today asking me to ring them back!!

 

Spoke with the same chap as yesterday who told me it was 5pm, (not 6 like you told me yesterday?) and there was a note on the system to offer £35. :shock:

 

I have to wait for them to ring me again tomorrow "it will be first thing but if they haven't rung by 11am call back" but I just phoned the Bristol store.

 

It's getting worse - I could have had the FF delivered sooner by going to the store, they could also have collected the damaged one to get it out of my way on the Wednesday and delivered a replacement one to me on Saturday as I had requested as I would be in and not take a day off. JL cust services say they rang the store to ask if they could do this whilst putting me on hold only for the store to claim they don't deliver here :evil: They do.

 

Lisa at the store has kindly helped out tonight and whilst the store are unable to offer anything at the moment, they have advised that I tell them about ringing the store directly. She also told me that they should be offering at least 20% back to me as an apology. I would have been happy at £50-75 :lol:

 

So to summarise, buy direct from the store, don't do it online :(

and lets see what happens tomorrow.......

Can I join the club. I am currently looking for a new microwave. Not picky as its mainly used for defrosting and making milky coffee but it does need to fit the gap and they've got bigger than when our last was bought (a long time ago)

 

Mine is by LG - a few years old now and going well. not too big and no extras that I don't need either.

Well at last yesterday saw the problems with JL sorted out.

 

They didn't ring first thing but at 1045, and apologised first and went straight to an offer of £75 before I'd said anything!!

 

I told them of the conversation with the Bristol store which lead to the woman explaining that some staff want to help and some dont :shock: blah blah a few more sorry's etc.

 

I asked outright for the 20% and was put on hold as she couldn't authorise that (why was she ringing me then, I want the organ grinder....:lol: )

 

I got £100 back :D

 

still, for the hassle I think it was worth it

 

So lets see.

 

Fridge cost, £499, used a £20 off code on website

Got £100 back for the hassle

oh, and I went through a cashback site to order it and earned £30

 

Got a lovely working FF for £350 :D

Goodness me, what a HASSLE! And this is supposed to be these peoples business :shock: Well, it looks like the gremlins have reached Bisley - toaster blew up mid toast two days ago, Dishwasher has been out of action for two months (used to trip the whole house out every time it hit the rinse cycle) and I'm on my second "semi-industrial" tumble dryer. Why don't they make things to last anymore! :evil:

Because it's a conspiracy to make us buy more white goods. They are perfectly capable of manufacturing longer lasting equipment, but there's no economic return in it for them - they cost more to make and last a lifetime so that we don'd keep buying more. My 'spare' iron is 20 years old - it doesn't have steam, but helps me through when my steam iron does blow and I'm not able to get a new one immediately.... made things to last in those days!
