Becka
I use my juicer most days and I would like to put the shredded fruit and veg leftovers on my compost heap. This would include citrus fruit and root ginger 'bits' and I seem to remember (although not clearly!) reading that I shouldn't put acidic fruit on the heap? i would think that it would all rot down and shouldn't result in compost that scorched the rootd off the plants or would it? Guest
A bit of acidic fruit will not do any harm if it is mixed with lots of other composting material and rotted down. You mustm't use it in a womery though, they don't like it. If you get a lot of orange and lemon and grapefruit though I would bin it, bit but the odd one here and there won't matter. Lesley
You could use the orange and lemon bits to keep cats away from veg. plots etc. Edited February 7, 2006 by Guest
Guest
The grapefruit to collect slugs - or freeze any orange and lemon peel for marmalade making.
Mel (& Paul)
What great ideas - I tend to just chuck my lemon / lime / orange leftovers away as I had been told not to put them on the compost heap. I guess if we put them out for the slugs etc., the chooks wouldnt be affected by them?
Guest
My chooks do not like oranges, lemons, limes or grapefruit - they have a sweet beak and lurrrrrrrve strawberries - some of which I got from Harrods to day for them

Lesley-Jean
I'm fairly sure I was told by the omlet guy who delivered my chooks not to give them citrus fruit.
