tara Posted November 13, 2008 Share Posted November 13, 2008 One of my 6 hens seems a bit down she is just sitting in the garden all huffed up. not noticed any sneezing but she is regrowing her feathers she was quite bald and sore.If l throw food out she runs after it and still gets it so not of her food.She just looks fed up ive had a sick chicken before in fact at one point this chicken in question cost me £160 at the vet with an xray and other bits.Just wanted some ideas Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Hope someone will come along soon as it is soo worrying, If she is still sitting hunched up then if it were mine(not saying this is the right thing to do) I would pop her in a cat basket or crate & bring her in the warm, with food water & grit to hand. I just feel that at least they are not using up energy keeping warm & you can keep an eye on them. Could it be a softee on the way? minealways drink loads too with one coming! Good luck. tara Posted November 13, 2008 Author Share Posted November 13, 2008 Ive brought her in and given her warm porrige shes now settled and sleeping.Her poo is runny and very smelly l know its poo but should it be like that shes been in the garden freeranging today so it could be whats gone in has come out.your advice would be great. TAJ Posted November 13, 2008 Share Posted November 13, 2008 If she is regrowing feathers that does take it out of them - have you tried a poultry boost or extra protein to assist her. My one that is in mid-moult is spending a few hours a day sitting in the eglu, which she would never do normally - but like yours will always come out for treats. sandyhas3chucks Posted November 14, 2008 Share Posted November 14, 2008 I got mine in May & after 1 month used Vermex then read on the forum about not kiling them. Soearly July Flubivetted them. Then they individually had been womed since them, then finally approx a week ago I did them all again.(I had 2 that were not the weight I felt they should be, one had had squits needing Baytril to clear, then thought same one was gaping so treated her for gape the others normally. you should have seen the size of disgusting worm SHE expelled and I had never seen a worm in any pooh despite constanty examining (sad I know ) You know what? both are now putting a bit of weight on, so worm just in case. I am not one to advocate it normally, don't like to put chemicals in any animal unecessarilly. But just goes to show you. If they free range you can worm em one day & they can pick it up next! tara Posted November 14, 2008 Author Share Posted November 14, 2008 Going to worm them all just in case but im of on holiday next monday l have got some antiotics from the vet to give her.My friend is going to do it so dont want to leave her to much to do.Why dose this have to happen just as im going away for my one week a year holiday However worming is a very good idea and may start it and see if she could carry it on even if she just worms the sick one for now l can do the others when l get back. Are you using the "grape" method , You could just leave your friend the rest of your girls flubivet in a little pot & the grapes to dip in it. with the instructions & I am sure they will both be very happy. You have the aintibiotic for her too, so you really have done and are doing the best you can. Ask your friend to offer her water & food, you might feel happy leaving her, her favourite treats to tempt her. If she is good with the chooks the treats will be fun for her to give too. Ah bless you ive just got her in and shes in a cage in my living room this will be her second night.Shes got natural live yougurt to eat as well as porrage and some water.I have noticed somthing shes not drinking weather she been drinking in the run l dont know but the food is very fluidy so may be it will be ok for her.
