sparkysmum
Dear Matthew, how absolutely awful. Like everyone else i am shocked and saddened by what has happened to you and your hen. It simply beggars belief that someone could be so heartless. No doubt in later life he will do this to others. Please send your partner my kind thoughts and may your hen RIP. Matthew
Update: They were playing truant.. the community officers saw them out and ordered them back to school. Ten minutes later they killed the chicken and dumped it at the back of a bush behind the 6' fence of our garden along with a hanging basket... The police were called and they are pretty certain that they know who did it .. he was bragging to pupils at the bus stop and the kids of our neighbours were too scared to tell the police (they are year 7 so I dont blame them to be honest) but nodded when the policeman asked if one who did it have a brother.. they are notorious apparently. he then said... well it will save me a journey.. have to see him this evening about his bail conditions.... To be honest I don't think anything will come of this.. but I'm more concerned about them coming back more than what they have already done... Thanks for all your kind words... broke my heart last night when I came home and found OH sitting in the conservatory with poor Momo on her lap.... Lydia
Good god! Matthew I am so very sorry. If you're worried and want to move Xabi for a while to keep her out the way we'd more than happy to have her lodge here. We're in Woodley.
Matthew
UPDATE 2 Headmistress of school has expelled the suspect until it is proved either way Notified the RSPCA with intention to secure the prosecution let us know a sixth form girl has informed on the suspect offered to pay reasonable costs to secure our property from her pupils walked round and introduced herself to OH increasing patrols in that area given us her direct number to call at any time if we see something suspicious So much more than I expected and it has certainly made OH feel substantially better. We have agreed to get a couple more chickens as Alonso is clearly fretting........
Egluntyne
That is good to hear. How sensible of her, and brave of the sixth former to speak up. All the best.
bluekarin
That is excellent news. So glad that something has being done about it and they haven't just tried to brush it under the carpet.
JM
That is a really awful story. I despair of some people - I certainly know what I would do to the yob. I'm so glad the head teacher is doing so many positive things - at least it is being taken seriously. Thinking of you both. J

chickenanne
What an appalling thing to happpen. I'm so glad that the school is taking it so seriously. And that someone was brave enough to stand up and say what they saw.
Bondinho
I don't understand people like that. If I was back at school and heard about a kid doing that I would have battered them senseless even if they are meant to be some kind of 'gangsta'. Sick little "Ooops, word censored!". Sounds like the school are being very supportive of you guys though which is pretty impressive.
Ain't Nobody Here
That is such good news that the police and the school are taking it so seriously. It doesn't bring poor little Momo back or lessen the anguish for you and your OH but at least the cowardly thug won't be getting away with it (and hopefully any of his pals will think twice before behaving in a similar fashion). Cinnamon
That is good news Matthew. Both the Police & the Head seem pretty on the case. I am not a million miles from you either,so would be happy to help out in any way I can.I certainly know some local breeders if that will help? Henhathnofury
I am pleased that something is being done. You wife must be so hurt and upset by it all - of course you must all be so numb and angry. There seem to be quite a few of us Berkshire chickeners. Best wishes. cluckbok
Just caught up with this thread. Cannot believe it! that's atrocious behaviour! craftyhunnypie
This is absolutely sick! I was very upset reading this! I hope the boy gets banned from keeping pets for life! I also hope for someone to wring his neck - he will get what for one day! I shudder at this post. Emma.x

Guest
I think that's the least she can do!! I'd keep on at your "community bobbies" as well - the govt have given them all kinds of targets to reach to ensure we all feel "safer in our neighbourhoods" (quote). So ask them to keep a visible presence in your area by patrolling it etc...... It won't bring her back but at least it might deter any further mindless attempts! mostin
This is so sad and shocking. I am so sorry to hear about Momo. I hope they carry on taking this a seriously as they appear to have started to, too many serious offenders start by abusing animals and people don't act as they are "only animals" and later thay wish they had. I hope you and your OH are able to mourn and are feeling safer about your other girl.
clootie
I don't suppose the parents of this idiot have had the courage to knock on your door have they? No? I didn't think so. I really hope that this boy will be punished for what he did but sadly, nowadays, it only seems to be something to brag about to others. Very sad indeed. My best wishes to you both. Tiggy
I will never understand why some people feel the need to act like this he obviously has a serious psychological problem, but there are no excuses for his behaviour. I'm glad the school and the police are being so supportive, hopefully this boy will get the help he needs or locked up whichever is more appropriate. I'm so sorry you and your wife have had to deal with this, poor chicken
Angels4
I've just caught up and I'm speechless. I just cannot believe how some people choose to behave. This young person must have some serious mental health problems.
