Ain't Nobody Here

I'm back!!

Recommended Posts

I'm off to the Lakes on Monday for school camp. We're going with 16 autistic/Aspergers kids to Calvert Trust on Lake Bassenthwaite near Keswick :) .

If you see two white minibuses, one with a trailer, give us a wave (I might well be driving one of them, so probably won't wave back - I'll be the one with white knuckles on the steering wheel :anxious: ).

Bit of abseiling, canoeing, abandoned mine exploring, archery, hill walking and all my food cooked for me - just what I need at the moment (no, really, it really is just what I need at the moment  ).

I'll miss you all :( . I'll be having severe withdrawal symptoms by next Friday :( .

Hi

Hope the weather is kind to you.

Hope the kids all behave well for you.

know were you are up to with them as we have 2 boys our selves with Aspergers

So wish you and the other staff all the very best.

Good Luck

Best regards

Ian & Valerie

And I'm exhausted :( . We had a great week but some of the kids were pretty challenging. It was constant from 7.30 till 10.30 (when you can then start on the wine  ). We had moaning, whingeing, refusal to co-operate, homesickness, attempted throttling (one girl of another  ), threats to run away, assault on a colleague (pretty deep scratches on his face), threat to stab another colleague, "I hate you" to me because we'd arrived at the top of a hill and it was cold, huffs and storm-offs (& that's just the staff  ), accusations of attempted drowning in the pool (rubbish obviously!), weird behaviour, budding romances (not a good thing :? ) and to cap it all, vomit in the bus on the way home  .

I had quite a good group (the older ones) so it was fairly easy for me but some of the others were hard work. Our Outdoor Ed teacher, normally very placid, easy going and laidback, was rattled by day two (never seen him like that :? ).

The activities were fun and the weather was pretty good apart from the last day when it poured all day (it had to be the canoeing and orienteering day  ). And most of the kids were brilliant - a few were absolute stars and a pleasure to be with :) .

Looking forward to my own bed  (if I ever get there with all these red stars to catch up on  ).

What actually makes it "fun" is the colleagues you go with :) . There were six of us and we had a great laugh. You have to compare notes and let off steam at the end of each day and the last night especially was hysterically funny (bit of wine was imbibed, naturally!). I was in great danger of needing a shewee at one point (we had a lovely conversation about that, of course!). I was paired up with the maths teacher who was great company - unfortunately, from the kids' point of view, we were Bad Cop, Bad Cop  .

We did consider trying out some of the medication we had to dish out each day - it didn't seem to work on the kids, so we thought we might benefit  .
