wierd egg......

Recommended Posts

I found a huge egg today on the floor of the coup. It looks like it had been laid from the perches and fallen as it was cracked. I suspect this is Doris as I have found several squashed softies on the floor over the last two weeks and all the others are laying fine.

I took it indoors as I was going to mix it with some oats as a treat for them (i wasn't going to eat it as it was caked in bedding and poo)

when I cracked it the yolk was huge! and looked a bit odd so I touched it and realised that the yolk actually had a soft shell around it instead of membrane. :vom:

I had to use a fork to pop it and even then I had to chase it round the bowl. The yolk that came out was very watery. I chucked it in the bin. Has anyone else had this?

I was going to start a topic with this question, but this sounds a bit like what I found today.. I looked in, saw a perfectly formed egg but covered in egg white/yolk goo and what seemed like news paper? could this be an egg within a sort of egg? although the outer one obviously didn't have much of a shell? OR could it be a bit of newspaper that she chewed 3 weeks ago, when I stopped using newspaper as they were just shredding it!! :?:

She seems fine otherwise, but did do this egg on the bars, not the nest tray... She has popped in the eglu a couple more times today, could this either because it's cold or she feels an egg coming on?Any ideas?

Doesn't seem to have affected her appetite.I have cleaned it all up, should have taken a picture!

hmmm :eh:
