HENthusiastic
After stumbling on a thread about moon cups, I took the plunge and got one. I am now on my first day of test driving the mooncup!
fluffyknickers
Heard different things about these so will be interested in your results! I was a bit unsure what you do when you are in a public toilet where the sinks are outside. Wonder how it fairs up to peoples different..erm..amounts/flows. Sorry - not one for the men this one! SAB
For public toilets you can either rinse with a bottle of water or just give a quick clean with some loo roll (I tend to carry hankies for this purpose rather than risk their only being scrathy or non-existent loo roll in the public toilets). My flow in recent years has been heavy at times and I have found this much more manageable since switching to mooncup as I was suffering from a lot of leaks with tampons. A wee panty liner or even a hankie helps with confidence on very heavy days/during the night. During a autumn clean of the house I somehow lost my mooncup - did 2 months without as sure it would turn up (goodness only knows where it has gone - keep expecting one of the kids to say "I found this wierd thing, what on earth is it?"), but then had to invest in new one as could not bear having gone back to tampons and pads. My new one has a measuring bit on the side (like a measuring jug) which I don't recall being on my original one. I think this is great as you can get a true measure of just how heavy you are if ever it is a concern as it can sometimes be difficult for women to convince Drs that their flow is very heavy. Good luck with it.
Ain't Nobody Here
I love mine . I agree, a bit of loopaper does the trick if there's no sink. (A tip I picked up from here: put some loopaper down the loo first before emptying the mooncup. Otherwise the contents sink to the bottom and stay there even after a flush . Bit if it's a busy public loo!) I've recently got tablets to reduce the flow as I couldn't go through the night (at its heaviest) without having to empty it 2 or 3 times . Only used them once so far, but they really seem to work . Good luck with the rest of your test run .
HENthusiastic
ANH: thanks for the tip: I discovered that yesterday though Well so far, (apart from the problem ANH has easily solved)..... I love it! I feel strangely liberated by it. I dont have to carry or use tampons. I dont have to empty half as often as I used to have to change. When I go to the loo just for a wee, there is NO sign at all that I'm on. Apart from the fact that it is a teeny bit messier when actually emptying, it is wonderful. And that is very easily managed with a bit of loo roll. Fab. I feel much much less aware of having a period at all. Its a definite HIT for me. I'm already thinking, I cant bear to go back to tampons and all that messing around. Its just SO easy. (Takes a bit of rummaging initially to get the hang of it ) Mooncup convert
chickencam
I had to go back to pads just before Christmas because I am a bit irregular at the moment and had not taken my mooncup away with me. It was horrible and made me very grateful to my mooncup.
HENthusiastic
We could probably save the word from environmental destruction just by eradicating the use and disposal of sanitary towels and tampons. Down with disposables! for the mooncup!
Tiggy
I wish my neighbours would use one, I get really fed up of the sewer junction in our garden getting blocked with the pads and tampons
fluffyknickers
ok i have done it bought a different make though (as it was cheaper!) but its more or less the same https://www.femmecup.com/thecup.html Will wait and see!
Guest
interesting reading, has anyone had a problem using one?
Olly
There's a whole thread on them here ! A few people find they can't use them, but the majority of people posting think they are fabulous. I wish I'd discovered this years ago.
Guest
thanks, been reading the web site and all the testimonials by forum users and have decided to get one.
Aunty e
I wish I had discovered mine years ago too - I'm annoyed with myself because a friend kept recommending it, and I kept pulling faces. But it's the best thing I ever bought for myself and it's made that time of the month SO much more pleasant. I can almost completely forget about it now, which is wonderful after years of pain (it helps with cramps), humiliating leaks and spending a fortune on sanitary wear. fluffyknickers
Told my friends today had ordered a femmecup and they are all awaiting my first trial run results to see how I go. We had such a laugh talking about it - you have ot laugh about these things! x
mostin
interesting reading, has anyone had a problem using one? I got one a couple of months ago. I had two succesful months but on the third it all went wrong and I just couldn't get it placed right and it leaked all the time. I didn't even try it last month. Think I will give it another try next month when I am relaxed again.

Plus when the flow is very heavy it seems to dislodge it, whereas it's OK the rest of the time. It's made me think more seriously about going to the docs to get it sorted though

It's made me think more seriously about going to the docs to get it sorted though I haven't had any children yet, but in general I have very little muscle tone anywhere . I do have very painful periods though and they are getting heavier. Maybe I need to step up from my mefanamic acid to tranexamic acid and then it will stay in place. Yorkshire Pudding
I haven't had any children yet, but in general I have very little muscle tone anywhere . I do have very painful periods though and they are getting heavier. Maybe I need to step up from my mefanamic acid to tranexamic acid and then it will stay in place. I asked my GP about both and she said that mefanamic acid controls pain, tranexamic reduces flow. So it's definitely worth asking about a change - the tranexamic acid works really well for me and keeps it all manageable. I find I don't get anything like as many cramps since I switched to the Mooncup so have been able to stop taking painkillers altogether - I used to need ibuprofen for at least 3 days a month to control pain and reduce flow. It's made a huge difference as I don't get indigestion any more!
Ain't Nobody Here
I have that same problem with it slipping downwards (lack of muscle control mainly and also when flow is heaviest (no suction ). I've tried the tranexamix once so far and it made a big difference. I've got an appointment in a couple of weeks to look at getting things hoiked up a bit, if you know what I mean . Aunty e
I would get hideous hideous cramps with tampons, and would leak all over the place with pads, so the mooncup has been a godsend. On my heaviest days I was used to wearing a tampon and a pad, and with the mooncup I only need to do that if it's gone a bit Enoch Powell down there. A trick with mine was to bear down on it when it was in, whilst pushing it up a bit from the bottom with my finger - seemed to help the suction. That made me laugh so much that I choked.. sorry can you get a *ahem* 'lift' on the NHS then? Sorry Poet, my problems were documented (and giggled over) in the initial mooncup thread. Olly
... with the mooncup I only need to do that if it's gone a bit Enoch Powell down there. That took me a moment or two to work out ... and then it made me laugh. A lot.
