I went out about 9am this morning to let my hens out and when i opened my Eglu door, there were 5 eggs on the hay area ! I collected yesterday and didn't even think my Amber Star was laying. My Bluebelle has been laying for a few months now, one egg a day quite regularly, but my Amber Star, who is much younger, has never given us any soft eggs or small eggs as a starter and we've never seen her laying in the Eglu.

 

So when i found 5 eggs this morning i was amazed!

 

My question is, has this ever happened to anyone else? I didn't think it was possible (and i'm very impressed !) Can a chicken lay 2 or 3 eggs in one day?!

Don't know the answer to your question, but it sounds like you hit the jackpot!!!! Unless you have some "stealth" chickens, I'd wager that hens can lay more than one a day...

Well my bluebelle Lulu likes to stash her friends eggs & hide them in the straw ready for sitting on them. She fooled me yesterday - we found 2 hidden this morning!

I had 5 eggs from 4 hens once - still don't know who doubled up, but we aren't complaining!

All three of my Merrydale Copper Blacks laid two eggs in one day when they first started.

 

Thankfully they soon settled down to one egg a day.

Yes my Bluebelle went through a stage of laying 2 eggs a day. Unfortunatly the second egg had a flaw in the shell (small part of it was very thin). They then laid a double yolker (yummy) followed by just one egg a day (odd day missed laying).
