CALNICK
at present we have 6 girls which have a 12 foot run, though they are let out for about 3 hours or more a day to free range. We were wondering about purchasing another 4 and having them in the same free ranging area in a another house and run. If we did this would we have to let the 2 lots of girls out at different times to avoid sqabbles etc. Any help and advice would be gratefully appreciated, thanking you in anticipation. calnick

tom123
No that would be perfectly fine. I have 2 separate runs for the bantams and the big girls and they all free-range together every night. there are a few squabbles but thats only over corn. Good luck Tom
BeckyBoo
Hi there, you would have to let them out at seperate times to start with, but once they'd been introduced they should free range together fine. Give it a month or so, maybe not even that long, and they may all be able to bunk down together and be in the run together! Mine still squabble a bit if they're bored or just feel like it but mostly hens rub along together fine once the introductions are out of the way! good luck choosing your new hens! meezers
I am in the process of doing exactly the same, I have 6 chooks and am building a new run/coop adjoining the present run. I hope to get another 6 chooks and like you, will let them free range separetley for while. When I know they are getting on ok, I will remove the mesh between the 2 runs and have one big mixed run with 2 coops for them to share- if they don't get on I'll just keep the runs seperate.
