Just a quick update which isn't!

 

My Dad flew back to the UK today because the hospital won't let us see my brother and my Dad wants to come back and keep my brother's business going. That in its self is a nightmare because my brother's phone was lost in the accident. This is his main communication tool as he has his own company but only employs one person. O2 won't give us a new SIM card because we don't know my brother's password. O2 don't seem to understand that when someone is in a coma they can't give you their password. Without the phone the customers can't contact us!

 

I was busy dealing with the phone issue when my Dad dropped the bombshell that the hospital refuse to give updates on my brother's condition by phone. They say you have to be there at 1pm to get them or you are left in the dark. They won't let us into see him though so we are expected to stay in Spain so we can get updates but not be able to see my brother. I have phoned the British Consular office tonight and they don't hink they can help but did say to call back tomorrow when the Spanish Consular officials are in. I was hoping the office might speak to them by phone and then we could call them for updates.

 

I really don't want to travel out there if I can't see Tom because there's only so much time the OH can have off work to look after the girls and I've never left either of them overnight before.

 

I don't know anything about Tom's condition because my Dad flew back before 1pm so missed todays update. The receptionist at the hotel is going to go to the hospital on Thursday to pretend to be Tom's sister to get us an update. How kind is that? There are some truly wonderful people in the world.

That sounds so heartless and bureaucratic when families are going through such a bad time . I hope the receptionist manages to get some info for you (what a nice thing to offer to do ).

Oh Shirl, I'm so very sorry. My husband is half Spanish and so we have family in Spain, and if you need any advice or help with dealing with things there, let me know if I can help in some way. They are in north west Spain, I don't know if that is any use to you, but please PM me if you'd like to. I hope your brother pulls through this.

What a dreadful situation for you and your family, hopefully that very kind receptionist will be able to get more information today. I can't believe how unsympathetic the hospital are.

I've just heard from my Dad. Tom's heart stopped in the night but they managed to resuscitate him. His breathing is really bad even though he has a tube in. His lungs are filling with blood and his lungs have a hole so blood is escaping from the lungs. His condition is still critical. They are still not allowing visitors and reiterating that if he survives then he will have a lot of brain damage. It's hard because I know my brother wouldn't want to be like that but obviously we want him to pull through. We're hoping they are just being pessimistic but after last night maybe they're just realistic.

 

This update came via the British Consul in Spain and they have promised us they will get daily updates until we are allowed to go and see him.
