House Hunting/split due to family Tragedy

Recommended Posts

Shirl, it must be very difficult to think straight - your lives have been turned upside down.

On a practical level, I'm sure that as long as you aren't away for very long, and can express while you're in Spain to keep the milk going, the breastfeeding can carry on as before once you're back home. It doesn't sound as if you feel ready to stop, at least not like this, and you've probably got quite enough change in your lives to be going on with as it is.

Wishing you strength and hope, hope and more hope

Caroline

You are already on your way by now, but I just wanted to add my good wishes & {{{hugs}}} too.

Re the breastfeeding, DS decided at 18 months that he'd had enough & wanted to move on from me. I assume you are only feeding now maybe once a day, so you will have some discomfort, but it will ease after a few days...I wandered round with savoy cabbage leaves in my bra to ease the ache, it worked but was an unusual scent to say the least :vom: ! Given that your DD is a bit older than my DS was, she may just slot back into her old routine or simply move on once you get home, I hope you are happy whichever way it goes  .

I got home about 5 hours ago. I've been trying to find info on the internet since.

Tom isn't doing well. He is off life support and breathing through a tracheotomy. He has his eyes open but does not focus and he is classified as being in a vegetative state. The Drs have said after tests on Thursday he is likely to remain in this state. His cortex has almost no activity. He can hear but only sounds he doesn't know what the sounds are. Spasticity has started so his limbs are stiff and his hands are starting to turn in and clamp shut.He has an infection as he has a hole in his lung so he has a raging temperature, his heart is racing at between 170 and 200 beats per minute. Blood pressure is sky high (180/100 as an average.)

They tell us he had a brain aneurysm which caused the car accident. If his prognosis was good they would look to treat the anurism soon but under the circumstances they aren't. They tell us it will be 3-6 months before we know exactly how he will end up but improvement is likely to be minimal.

As you can imagine we are heartbroken. To add to our distress he didn't have travel insurance so we will have to pay for repatriation which will cost a massive amount because he will need a specialst medical air ambulance with intensive care unti on board with a team of doctors / nurses. We are unsure of how much we will have to pay for medical care as he has a EHIC card which covers emergency care but we not sure how far this goes.

If anyone learns something from this it has to be that travel insurance is not something to save money on. Tom was a very fit 36 year old with no health problems and by freak medical occurance has ended up alone miles from home in intensive care with no hope for repatriation in the near future.
