House Hunting/split due to family Tragedy

Recommended Posts

How awful for you all, Shirl. :(

I really don't know what else to say. Still thinking of you. Let's hope the doctors are being very pessimistic in their prognosis and he defies their prediction.

I'm sure you could have done without the added worry, not to say expense, of repatriating him. It certainly reinforces the need for travel insurance. *huge hugs*

p.s. Just a thought. Would you consider starting an appeal to try and get the money together from donations?

So sorry to hear the latest update Shirl.

Also check with the company he works for - they may be able to provide some assistance and he may have travel insurance as part of his package. Presumably he was on holiday rather than a business trip ? if it was business they should definitely help you but they may well help as well if he on holiday.

Oh Shirl, I can't find the right words here. You are in my thoughts and I hope you find some further information. Someone mentioned an appeal.. what about approaching your local radio station or BBC/ITV to see if they would run the story. There is an importatnt message to all of us within it. It may be a way of gathering support to get him home sooner. Hugs from here too.

I'm at a loss to think of the right things to say also, other than I just sincerely hope that everything does work out for all of you. I hope that you can find a way to bring your brother home very soon.

Lots of love and positive thoughts xx

Thanks for your positive thoughts, hugs and prayers.

Thanks also for the ideas on how to fund getting him home. Tom has his own small business so unfortunately there's no employer to help. He does have some sort of mortgage protection insurance in the case of illness so his mortgage should be paid for a while at least which will give us thinking time before we are forced to think about what to do with his home. I'm fairly certain he doesn't have insurance in with his bank account but obviously we are trying to go though all the normal things to check insurances and when payments are due etc. The whole thing is complicated because of course we do not have any authority to act on his behalf and so we need someone to apply to become his Deputy and administer his affairs. This will take about 3 months. Unfortunatley I think this is going to cause family strife. :(

I guess that's another message that we should all give Power of Attorney to someone so that this cost and stress is avoided in the event of such an unfortunate fate falling upon us.

Hi Shirl,

Ive been away so just got back and caught up with this thread and it really sounds like youve been having a tough time.

Nothing I can add to all the above but to send you a big hug and to keep you and your brother and all your family in my thoughts

Won't the British Embassy repatriate him and then collect the money from you later, say by Direct Debit instalments? I thought that that was part of their remit. I remember my parents telling me that if ever I was in trouble, while travelling on the Continent, to go to the British Embassy or British Consul.
