chickencam
Delia every year for me too, her classic Christmas cake and mincemeat and pud are to die for
Cinnamon
By the way,Reading was disappointing festivities wise. No Boots or M&S catalogues, no Starbucks Gingerbread latte & only a small Christmassy bit in John Lewis. Ah well, give it a week Delias Creole Christmas cake is the one I always do - it has a glazed nut topping & is as easy as anything (but you will need to start it soon!) chickencam
My OH likes the creole cake, but it is a bit too soggy and boozy for me.
Chookiehen
I would like to make a xmas cake but I know I wouldnt be able to do the whole icing bit. x I don;t ice my Christmas cake - it's left naked, and decorated with a wreath of holly and ivy from the garden. Icing and marzipan ruins the taste of a good cake!
fluffyknickers
Ok will give it a go and just leave it as is. never made one before so as easy as possible woudl be good! I dont even like xmas cake (or xmas pudding) so it will be good to make one as wont eat it!!! Michelle
Valkyrie
You might have to wait till after Halloween and then it all seems to kick in. OH has been up to Harrods a few times to help out a friend, he was rather surprised to see the Christmas tree in there early this month too. He said people were taking photos by the tree - I wonder if you were there the same day Cinnamon! We don't eat Christmas cake here either, so we do have fairy cakes or mince pies and jam tarts. Mum makes a Belgian loaf for the fruity version.
Chook n Boo Mum
Christmas cakes at my mums's are usually to be found in the hostess, covered with foil.......around about Easter time Sha x

Valkyrie
It's that awful metallic tang you get - but then my mum covers cakes in foil too - sometimes you are lucky to get a tiny bit - yurk!
henriette
Er, excuse me, but here I am in my shorts (thank goodness you can't see me) weeding the veggie patch, cutting the laurel hedge, trying to sort out what to take for our trip to see daughter and grandson and everybody is doing "Christmas". How can this be??? Have I missed out a month or two? Actually, I am being a hypocrite because when I get back at the end of October, chances are I will sneakily be making Christmas lists, checking out the tree decorations and making the Christmas Pud (I don't make a cake as none of the family apart from Loved One enjoys it. I will probably have bought a few little pressies too..... I am a great Delia fan and love almost all of the recipes in her Christmas Cookery Book. I have never tried the creola cake though - maybe I should. Oh dear, NOW I feel very christmassy all of a sudden. What have you all done to me?? ps Love the garland - I think it was Koojie who added it to the message. Really great!
Griffin
I started my Christmas shopping today I bought some felt tip pens and books in WH Smiths that were reduced plus some nice pyjamas that had 25% off in Sainsburys. They're now safely tucked away. I now need to buy wrapping paper because due to too many nosey parkers I always wrap presents up as soon as they're bought! My mum always used to make the Delia Smith cake and now so do I. It'll get baked in half term and regularly fed cherry brandy And it'll soon be time to start organising the Secret Santa I run on another forum. Somebody posted yesterday asking if we'll be doing it again so I know I'm not alone in thinking about Christmas already!
Valkyrie
Yay secret Santa - I've only just rediscovered where my Damson Jam was squirrelled away - that was found when OH turfed out chutneys and things - why was my jam put at the back - when I put it in a different cupboard (and someone had already dived in first ). My mobile phone won't fit in the holder - but it's great for my reading specs. Plus I need time to sort out what I'm doing this year. I'm getting the vibes now good and proper! And as you liked the garland here's another:

fluffyknickers
my favourite xmas song is Grandma got runned over by a reindeer Walking home from our house Christmas Eve. You can say there's no such thing as Santa, But as for me and Grandpa, we believe. We have a reindeer (not real ) that you press his hand and he dances along and mouth moves to this - kids (and grown-ups)love it. x
