Want to change over to rubber chips

Recommended Posts

I've been looking into changing my girls over to rubber chips in their outside run for a little while and I have found a supplier of recycled tyre chips not too far away from me. I just wondered is there any difference between purchasing from a recycling company who supply for equestrian rings or buying from a garden centre (which is far more expensive!)?

Just being over-cautious for my little darlings! Any thoughts?

The equestrian stuff will have bits of fluff in it and will be more shredded or more pelleted (depending on the quality)

The garden centre stuff will be chunks rather like woodchips in size and shape

It depends on how much you want of it, the lower standard equestrian stuff would be cheapest if you want a lot as you can buy it in ton bags (but it has that fluff...)

Do be sure that your base is free draining, I have read a few horror stories about rubber chipping bases turning to mucky messes when you hose them down
