ChrisEllis
Hi, I have one silkie that i think is a boy because its starting to grow the red bit nder its beak which im surprised at because i didnt think silkie grew the red bit also have a look at its face - is the redness being pecked at? This one is my frizzle chamois poland, can anyone tell if its a boy or a girl? This is my chamois poland it has a really tidy head is it a by or a girl? And my last chamois poland had a quite scruffy head probably cant see it being as scruffy atm! And lastly is this silkie a boy!

Gem_Seb
oh regarding the redness one of mine had this and i thought it was from being pecked at but it died down after a week or so, im not really sure whether it was from pecking or not as i never seen it going on.... BeckyBoo
I'm sorry, the frizzle chamois Poland appears to have been swapped for a toilet brush!! That is the best looking chicken I've seen in AGES BeckyBoo
Griffin
I think the frizzle Poland is a boy, the other two girls. The Silkie looks like a boy, can't be sure without seeing it's comb.
ChrisEllis
surely the silkie is definitely a boy if he has that hanging down bit ? plus also, if my boy is a gold laced chamois frizzle, what would i need to do to get more of that breed? Doesnt it have to be a black and gold laced to be crossed with itself? Im really confused about breeding
Griffin
He's not gold laced, he's chamois, same as the girls. Gold laced is a different colour altogether.

How do you mean different altgoether, my breeder told me that they wont start getting the gold lace until their older feathers past 8 weeks

Redwing
Sadly poultry genetics is not like mixing paint! If it was we would all have chocolate orpingtons Gold laced is gold lacing on a black background, there is no such thng as a gold laced Chamois I dont know what the genetics are of the cross either, possibly the Chamois is the stronger colour genetically or the cross would have resulted in a mix of chicks (Chamois, gold laced and possibly a plain colour like black) and you just happened to get Chamois chicks - I honestly dont know The chamois colour is buff laced on a creamy background - thats what you have and very nice they are too, much more sought after than the gold laced so be very pleased with them, they are very nice birds
ChrisEllis
oh i see - yes they are probably the most friendy birds i have ever met - close bond with them - funny story just the other day i was clenaing out their coop and the frizzle poland jumped onto the back of my leg as i lent over so i picked him up and put him on the floor again and so he jumped onto the roof of the nesting box and up onto the ledge of the coop and sat there watching me - also whenever i walk in the pen he always runs forward and if i put my arm out jumps onto it I recomend getting some!
