Olly
The ree is coming next Saturday, friend's kind husband collects about seven trees and drives around in his truck delivering them, so I have to have it when they want theirs, it's a bit early but my only visitors this year are coming on 12th December so I'd want it up by then. No theme - lots of lights, I can't stop buying extra sets (stars, flowers, rope lights and a 'net of lights' from Lakeland that always goes over the window, and some outside ones if I can manage it), lots of tinsel, and all the old favourite tree decorations - some were my mum's, and I remember past Christmases when I hang them up. I buy a new decoration every year to add to them, which is what she did. Then there's my Nativity set - santons from Provence, which remind me of happy holidays spent there with my brother and his wife, haven't been for a while but I used to buy one every year to add to the set. Stick the Christmas cards up somewhere, and that's it! I'll be sick of it by the 27th or so, but I am away over Christmas itself so I might as well enjoy it beforehand. Griffin
I sorted through our decorations yesterday and I'd forgotten all about Katherine of Aragon who is going to take pride of place on our tree I might buy Henry VIII when I go back to Hampton Court in a couple of weeks. Willow
I love looking at the dvarious ecorations and remembering where they came from but one of the nicest trees we had was the first year we were married when we had no money and we got the cheapest set of lights from woolies and a roll of ribbon and tied bows all over it. We made a few decorations from paper that we have saved. It was so pretty
Rhapsody
One year I bought a whole load of cheap candy canes from the pound shop and just hung them on the tree it looked fantastic. This year the kids' cottage will have a silver tree with black decorations and we are having a real tree delivered on 12th might go silver and blue this year. One year we went lilac and fluffy/feathery. My husband called the tree 'Lily Savage' all through the festive season The dry summer means we have loads of holly berries, so I'll be out harvesting soon. The Dogmother
Get Rready for Yule on 21st December - I shall have holly, ivy and mistletoe on the door
docsquid
I made two wreaths with laurel, conifer and holly from the garden, some black tinsel to set it all off, and some baubles. Look quite nice replacing the two pictures over the fireplace! I have some decorations and lit twigs, but can't put them up until the tree arrives (tomorrow, hopefully) and the new TV is unpacked and installed as it is currently sitting where the tree is going to be! Still, nice to make a start!
Snowy
Christmas for me doesn't start until after my birthday (10th December). My birthday present is usually the christmas tree I have started a little early this year - I made this at patchwork class so it had to go up as soon as it was finished. It's a little bit festive but I think it could be OK to leave up all year
Cate in NZ
Snowy, I love, love, love that bunting . It looks beautifully made, and the colours are just gorgeous against your fireplace and red wall. Beautiful. For the first time in my entire life, I'm ready for Christmas...already . Son's birthday is towards the end of November & I refuse point blank to even think about Christmas until his day has been and gone...and it was a big one this year...18 already!!! But last posting dates to the UK was 30th November so all cards & gifts have been bought, wrapped (written) and posted. Then Immy decided she wanted to take responsibility for the tree & decorations, so they went up yesterday (I might do a bit of tweaking at weekend though) & I've already bought, wrapped & hidden gifts for the immediate family. So I'm done! Only got the food shopping to tackle and that's not exactly hard, I can't face roast turkey, veg & stodgy fruit pudding in the summer heat over here....so a barbeque with fresh home grown strawberries it will be. Easy!! Daughter's tree theme is pink & silver by the way, it does look nice. Good luck to everyone else with their Christmas preparations
Busybird
We put our decorations up last night OH was at his work Christmas 'Do' so when DS1 came home from school we went into the roof space and dug out the Christmas boxes. After dinner and homework the kids got to work on transforming the house to the accompaniment of a corny 'Christmas music' CD We have a big green tree in our family room with white and silver lights and baubles. That room also has a small, white, prelit furry tree in an alcove room and lots of white and silver tinsel, reindeer, angels and so on set around it. We have a nativity set on a table that the kids still rearrange daily In the hall we have a small green tree with multicoloured lights and baubles and in the lounge I have wound red and gold tinsel around the fireplace, speakers and tables and put some red and gold streamers between light fittings. DD bought herself a small white tree for her room and has decorated it with red baubles. DS1 bought himself silver stars to hang from his central light and desk. DS2 bought himself gold and red tinsel and baubles to wind around his bunk bed. My old teddy (dressed in his Christmas hat) did the big lights switch on with some help from DS1. It was a real fun evening. OH came in late, a bit wobbly from his night out, and didn't even notice
Chickendoodle
DD's birthday is 5th December so we always put the tree up on her birthday so that it was there for her party. She is now 24 and has left home but I can't break the habit so this weekend it is! Tree has a mass of various decorations gathered over the years. We have made a point of buying one tree decoration from every place we have visited so it is a tree of memories. We have a bear from Alaska, Eskimos from Canada, a swimmer from Florida, Elvis from Vegas, a skiier from Switzerland and our latest is a Murano glass Father Christmas on a gondola from Venice. Nothing matches but we love it!
Cinnamon
I seem to buy something new fore the tree each year, but keep to the gold/copper/red theme. I got an amazing bauble from John Lewis this year - its a lovely rich red, really glossy & crackled looking.....in fact it looks just like the top of a toffee apple
Busybird
Chickendoodle, I just love the idea of a Christmas Elvis from Vegas
Olly
Nothing matches but we love it! Exactly how I feel about my tree - it's the memories that each item brings that make it special for me, not the overall effect which is probably a bit chaotic. missuscluck
None of our stuff matches either. Ours is a mish mash of bits and lots of things the kids have made. My favourite is a paper angel that my son made at nursery that looks like a ghost not an angel as it has big googlely eyes. I have put a string of outdoor lights up as they are new this year. I am determined not to buy anything else this year though and am hiding my eyes when I am tempted. I think we will be putting the tree up the weekend before christmas as I like a real one and they turn into twigs if they go in too soon. Looking forward to it

Valkyrie
Er, I have a couple that weren't taken down from last year - ribbons that hang on the door so that I can peg cards to them.

Ain't Nobody Here
I love the decs going up and hate taking them down as the place looks robbed without them. Me too . I devised a plan for this a few years ago . Take one thing away each day for about a week before twelfth night (if that's when you take them down!). When it's gradual it doesn't look so bare when the last thing goes (the tree, obviously!)

Rhapsody
*stands up shyly and coughs* My name is Rhapsody and I don't like Xmas decorations, apart from xmas trees (real, please) fairy lights and holly. The rest I find ghastly and depressing, especially tinsel. *sits back down and looks at feet*
