PurpleTree
Morning all! Olly's asleep on the sofa next to me, which is good because we're off to the toddler group Christmas party this afternoon, with a not-so-surprise visit from Santa. Went to the school coffee morning earlier, discovered Dan's class had all made pine cone snowmen, and of course they put their names on them so you have to buy your child's. Can't believe I paid 50p for a painted pine cone I only went to look at the cook book they were selling, they asked if anyone had relatives from other countries to send in a recipe for it, so we got hold of a traditional Latvian one and sent it in, but it's not been included so I didn't buy it. Don't think we're going to get any snow here, it's blinking cold though
Valkyrie
Coo that's a bit much, PT - for a pine cone! What happened to just bringing things home without a charge? Lewis needs to brush up on typo's though - remember to read through your work thurrally before handing it in. Snow here too Fred - but in dribs and drabs - some big flakes, some sleet. ClaireG
I think these schools have got a blooming cheek charging for things like that. No snow here yet just horrid wet sleety stuff.
Valkyrie
blooming cheek Bet that wasn't quite the expression you used! But it isn't fair - the little'uns so want to bring their bits home with them that parents are held over a barrel. Outrageous. Also toned down for the sensitive lads on this thread - don't want them learning rude words for Christmas - their mums will be after us!
PurpleTree
well the letter inviting us to the coffee morning informed us that items made by the infants, juniors and nursery classes would be sale. Dan hadn't mentioned anything though, apart from coming home covered in white paint yesterday, so I don't think they were told that they were being sold. I expect all the ones not sold will be for sale at the door at home time. Trouble is because they put their name's on them you feel you have to buy your child's, even if you don't really want it. My friend had to pay a £1 for the tree decoration her son made - a lolly stick, with some pipe cleaners and a bit of glitter. Then another 50p for a little box her older son had made, which seemed better value as you got a few choccies in it.
ClaireG
One of my friends children has behavioural problems. The school sets "targets" for him and if he meets all these targets then he gets to go on a reward trip. My friend had a letter saying her son had met his new targets so was able to go on another reward trip. Parents have to pay for these trips which are about £15 a time, the trip isn't until mid Jan and my friend had to pay in full by the 10th December. She and i both feel that if it's a reward from school then the school should pay. She has no qualms about paying for other sorts of trips just these so called rewards. Valkyrie
Hah! We had one of those when Erin was at school. "As a treat we would like to reward the children with a trip to see blahdy blah in London - cough up for £20 for the tickets and the coach trip". Reward? So we paid and she hated the show! Lewis
*physics It is stupid that you have to pay, at school they make you pay so that you can make it ... so in DT we made these moisture testers and you had to pay for the batteries, then they kept them in school on display Father wants to sit down and have 'a proper look' at the WIR before we order it
Valkyrie
Oooooh - at least he's thinking about it. And of course it would save his lovely garden from being churned up. I know - tell him we'll all help as his back is a little iffy, so it's a bring a hammer and nails party at Lewis's!

PurpleTree
Hi all, i thought I'd share with you my 50p pine cone and here's Olly looking really happy to be at the playgroup Christmas party this afternoon He was such a misery, he didn't want to go on the bouncy castle, then he cried when Father Christmas came in, he did go and get his present from him though. It was literally a case of grab and run.
