Cats and Chickens Posted December 19, 2009 Share Posted December 19, 2009 Comments on the 'Chooks and snow' thread seem to suggest that glycerin can be used to prevent drinking water freezing. Is this the case? are there any adverse affects for the chooks. Having spent a bit of time this am defrosting a 4.5l galvanised drinker that was almost frozen solid I am extremely interested to know. Egluntyne Posted December 19, 2009 Share Posted December 19, 2009 Don't add glycerine to the water. It only works in large quanities, which are toxic to the hens. It messes with their blood sugar. Better to use the run pin to break the ice, or add a little warm water to melt it. Have locked this as the topic is already running **here**.
