shelley8179
I was just wondering what everyone else does with their girls feed and water? what supplements do you swear by for the feed and water and what do you think is a waste of time. Just thought it would be interesting.
Lavenders_Blue
I don't supplement with anything on a regular basis, just a squeeze of citricidal in the water when they have the sneezes. Mine have the ex-batts crumb and as far as I can see it contains just about everything a chicken could ever want. They are in fabulous health and laying good, strong eggs so I don't think I need to add anything to their diet. I sling them in a few greens to vary their diet every day but wouldn't say that was to supplement.

chickyhazel
We use bokashi bran, poultry spice and grit, but not normally all at once! We also use garlic, and whenever we get new chickens we add verm-X for a couple of weeks.
legend21
I use a little splash of ACV most days, if they have sniffles I change to ciridal, every so often I use a different supplement in the water, in the feed, which is ex bat crumbs I put garlic and alphalpha powder, somtimes cod liver oil and then change that to poultry spice, if I give them porridge I put limestone powder in to keep shell hard oh and a squeeze of diatrom earth in the feed to kill of any mites in their tummies Jackie

docsquid
I do give them Poultry Spice. They prefer mash to pellets - I mix crumb with poultry spice, a small amount of mixed corn, a few mealworms (protein) and sometimes other little bits and pieces such as grapes, raisins and so on. They get this in the morning, then pellets to top up during the day. Other than wormer (Flubenvet), and treats (grapes, bits of cake crumbs), and whatever they can get when free-ranging (mainly snails, slugs and frogs), grit in their grit feeder and water, they don't really get anything else. They seem healthy, are laying well. They are a bit spoilt, and I'd honestly prefer just to give them pellets, but the mash isn't too taxing to make. Cooks
I give garlic powder and brokashi in with their pellets, sometimes poultry spice aswell. ACV in the water rotating with citricidal.
Chucky Mama
Apart from Flubenvet wormer 4 times a year and the very odd pinch of probiotic in water (perhaps once every couple of months if poos look nasty) mine get no supplements.
Olly
Ditto - garlic powder, but that's for my health, not theirs! Flubenvet when needed, and that's all. I do make sure they have greens as often as possible in the winter though, as they don't free-range much.
C&T
Ours get nothing added to their water - they won't drink anything other than pure water... When we make Mash, we add any combination of Bokashi, Garlic and Poultry Spice. They always have access to grit/shell - if they don't, one starts laying softees. Other than that, their normal mash and the occasional treat...

Stevie
I always have a pot of mixed grit available for them cos i want to reduce their chances of having a prolapse.Occasionally mix some poultry spice with their food too,but to be honest-i've never noticed a difference.
