Jules.
Eldest son is 13 1/2 & due to go on a 10-day visit to China in July He'll be visiting Beijing, Xian & Shanghai. We know it will be very hot that time of year The only food he will need to buy is his lunch. Anybody been there? Do you have any tips of what he should take with him? We have had information from school about things he might need, & he's had a new Hep A & a MMR booster jab in the last month so he's covered that way. Thanks! craftyhunnypie
A fold up Swiis Army spoon & fork camping gadget might be a better idea! I haven't been China, but I expect similar tob Thailand - lots of Street food of noodles & stir fries..in Thailand you can safely buy street food - spotlessly clean. I don't know about China. Hows about some mugshots & a travel kettle & cups - incase he gets hungry in his room! Dont pack chocolate in his case - it will be truly melted when he gets there! Lots of sweets (haribos) - will make him ultra popular! Crisps Apart from snacky type things - I'm not much help! Emma.x
Chicken Licken
Immodium and dioralyte - just in case, headache tablets, a water bottle. A friend of mine went travelling in China last year and said the hygeine standards int he hotels were not of western levels - so a packet or 2 of wet wipes - they cover a multitude of uses! (Then again nor are the hygeine standards of most 13 yr old boys either )
Lewis
Meee? A camera Wet wipes is a good one, as is haribo. Check his phone will work over there (could get a PAYG sim just for the holiday)
Cinnamon
If hygiene isn't great, how about a little bottle of that hand rub/wash stuff?
Lavenders_Blue
Nothing to add to the above suggestions except to say that Immodium (and similar products) should be used with care... A colleague of DH's got a dicky stomach on holiday a couple of years ago, and did what we all do and took Immodium. Thankfully this was towards the end of his holidays, as when he got home he felt so bad he booked an emergency appointment with the doctor. The doctor said taking Immodium was the worst thing he could have done as an upset stomach is caused by the body trying flush infection out of the gut as quickly as possible. By taking Immodium, the infection is kept within the gut and can multiply, making the situation much worse! Ever since I heard this I have not bothered with the Immodium and packed the rehydration salts instead (and used hand gel before eating ANYTHING). This makes absolute sense to me, I can never understand taking something to stop "flushing" actions of the body...be it Imodium or flu remedies...I know they have a place, but it still makes me think "why"...as my dear Dad always says, "better out than in" Wow Jules, how exciting for him......I can't add anything else to the already great ideas mentioned re hygiene products.
