I suddenly feel very old

Recommended Posts

My child is off to her first gig this afternoon - she's going to see My Chemical Romance in Birmingham with a friend and the friend's dad; I was going to take them myself but he insisted and I know they will be safe, she's a sensible girl and has been drilled on gig etiquette/safety.

I've made sure that she has ear defence too - I'm a bit of a crusader on that point - a bad car accident and standing too close to the front at gigs when I was younger has left me very deaf in one ear  I now wear ear defence in any loud situations.

I can remember my first gig - Siouxsie and the Banshees at the 100 Club in London... that shows my age

What was your first gig?

Gary Numan at the Bristol Hippodrome 1980. My first and still one one of my best concert experiences.

Happy days :D

My most recent was The Pogues at Brixton Academy just before Christmas. That brought back a lot of memories too. I hadn't seen them live in just over 20 years.

 First ever gig was - wait for it....... David Cassidy went on to David Essex then progressed to Roxy Music, The Pogues, Lou Reed, Jools Holland, More and more Pogues (my favourites) The Saw Doctors, M People, The Levellers, Bob Geldof ........... and many more. That's one of the benefits of being a Biker - Rallies equal Bands. Also I used to sing in bands myself until we moved to Lincolnshire last year and am missing it like crazy. :boohoo:

Big Country at Reading.

I was in the front row & was so badly squashed against the edge of the stage that I got huge bruises all along my hips & tummy.

Still love them - had a good old weep when Stuart died a few years ago. Had seen them many, many times since that first gig too.

My last gig was Kaiser Chiefs a couple of years ago - it was a proper sweaty, get shoved about gig & it took me right back 8)

Does a festival count as a first gig?? Well I think it was my first - The friday night of Reading Festival August 1987 - The Mission, The Fall, Fields of the Nephilim, All About Eve

I honestly can't remember what solo gig I saw first, now that must be a sign of age!!! Although in my defence I've been to far too many to remember...Siouxsie was also one of the first but I can't remember where it was, all I remember was missing the last train home and having to sleep on Liverpool street station. :? From there I went on to see Fields of the Nephalim, New Model Army and the Levellers too many times to count.

And now I am too old to go to the gigs for the type of music I like. My last gig (and possibly the best- although isn't your last always your best??) Snoop Dogg. I have chickened out of all the last few gigs I'd like on the basis I'm too old and none of my friends like my type of music. Best friend says I have an inner teenager trying to get out.

I have only recently discovered gigs, I have been missing out and now want to make up for it! I also have no one who likes the stuff i want to see :( Teenage son was good for a while (Meatloaf, Santana, Alice Cooper) but he's too cool to go with his Mum now so I need to find a new gig buddy
