which district to stay in Paris

Recommended Posts

Around Montmartre is very nice and there are some posh places to be had near the Eiffel Tower. Try and keep to the centre though, and go for 3 star or if you have loads of money 4 or 5 star. If you are a poor potter like me thats unlikely. There is a restaurant that keeps chickes in an omlet cube somewhere not sure where though. If you miss your girls.

We've stayed in the Latin Quarter (first time) - very convenient for the Louvre and Musee D'Orsay and the last time we were just behind the Place de la concord (excuse spellings). The good thing about Paris is that the Metro will get you to most places anyway. The last time we drove there and that was a bit hairy but once there the car was parked and we just used the Metro or walked.

Have a lovely time. :D

Stayed in Pigaille which is s'pose to be the red light district but didnt see any red lights or ladies of the night. Very near to Montmarte etc. Felt very safe there - much less sleazy than Soho. Montmarte is awesome i love it round there. Nice little square at the bottom of Montmarte for coffee and watching the locals and tourists. Be careful of the computerised loo thing - it was playing up when we were there - either opens when you are in the loo or you cant get in or out. This was the kids highlight of their stay.

I'm sorry I can't be any help with the name of the district, but I went to Paris for a few days with my Mum several years ago and unknown to us we had booked a hotel in a very weird area, lots of 'ladies of the night' and most strangely a lot of wig shops too :? It wasn't too bad in the daytime, but we felt really unsafe at night and ended up eating out really early so we didn't have to walk around there late in the evening which was a real shame. I seem to remember it was near the Gare du Nord. Definitely not an area I'd recommend!

Welcome to BEST WESTERN Villa Des Artistes!

The BEST WESTERN Villa des Artistes is in the heart of the Left Bank with a car park nearby. Featuring an interior garden, all rooms with air-conditioning, renovated arty rooms, free WiFi access, mini-bar and satellite television. We offer a buffet breakfast for a nominal fee, lounge, 24-hour front desk, elevator and complimentary newspaper.

We stayed in the hotel above - it was lovely, we went in February 2010 and it was in walking distance to Montparnasse - well worth a night time trip to see the Eiffel Tower lit up from the top floor (cost only a few £'s in tesco vouchers too). There were lots of lovely restaurants nearby to sit and watch the world go by, and the hotel rooms are painted in the style of famous artists. We had a Dali room and it was amazing!! We didn't have breakfast, as we wanted to munch a croissant and coffee at the local cafes, but the hotel service was great, nothing was too much trouble. The metro was about 5 mins walk away.

We stayed in Hotel France Louvre on the Rue de Rivioli in 2005, we loved it, cheap, unpretentious and in a great location. Try to get a room at the front - Our girls shared a twin at the front which was a lovely shabby chic room with a little balcony, OH & I had a tiny double room at the back over-looking the bins

I think we paid around £400 for 4 adults, for 3 nights including eurostar travel, booked through expedia.

Don't miss the Montremar area and Sacre Coeur, you get a great view of the Eiffel tower lit up at night from here, & explore the back streets round the Sacre Coeur off the main square there are some great little restaurants, but don't sit at the outside tables at the bars - 4 drinks cost us £20 when we made that mistake

Where ever you stay I'm sure you will have a fantastic time, :D

There's an area just down from Sacre Coeur, where we saw lots of wig shops. I've never seen so many in one place.

I lived in Paris for 7 years and can say that if you stay on the metro link anywhere you can travel really easily and fast. But other than that it depends what you want. I went back last summer with my daughter and wanted a quiet, central hotel so we could walk to my favourite places...we stayed at the Hotel Beaubourg, which is very reasonable, very quiet and right next to the very centre of Paris..2 minutes from the metro, next to the Pompidou Centre and walkable to just about everywhere. Clean and in a nice area (near the Gare du Nord and other areas not so nice)..will stay there in future every time :D

Our boys go skiing every year, and as it's a chest beating masculine thing so we don't get included

..consequently

I've just booked a three day break in Paris for my DD and me.....sooo excited, and I've taken the advice of the forum and booked the Hotel Beaubourg...which seems a perfect location and a very reasonable price, some Paris hotels are

So looking forward to it and really just wanted to say thank you so much forum....the advice and links are absolutely invaluablexx

Just bumping this old topic to say I'm just back from Paris, having stayed in the Hotel Beaubourg, and I really can't recommend it enough....a really good choice, comfortable, clean and very centrally located...

Yes we saw these too!!!

Apart from the fabulous weather the high spot, for us was that our visit coincided (with no planning on our part at all) with an absolutely breathtaking son et lumiere at Notre Dame as part of the Parvil Des Gentils festival ....

and the low spot was paying 8 euros each for two cokes at a bar :shock::shock:

I can also recommend the Batobus, which is a great water taxi hop on / hop off service which stops at strategic points along the Seine and is very reasonably priced....!!!

Have fun travellers!!xx
