reneepren
The flies seem worse this year even though I manage my chicken and dog waste and keep it covered. So I am trying Fly Predators from Arbico, Will let you know how they work. Probably should have started earlier in the season. I hate having to spray fly spray around my organic garden. Anyone else have methods that work? Renee
Bramble
Claret told me her tip for home made fly repellent : water with a "few drops" (very crucial, precise measurement required (not)! ) each of citronella oil and eucalyptus oil - works brilliantly (thank you Claret! )
Plum
I find regular poo picking and spraying citronella works Touch wood

blueandwhite
Citronella spray and have now got a red top fly trap which is not very attractive but have hidden it in a bush and is already working.
fluffy chick
I have a red top fly trap too. Didn't think much to it at first but there are literally thousands of flies in there now! Ordered 2 more last night! We back onto the wolds which houses sheep all summer so we really struggle with flies (even pre-chickens) but I am really impressed with these traps. Heidi-Hi
Where do you buy the oils from? Are they aromatherapy oils?
blueandwhite
I got the citronella in spray form and the fly trap from ebay. Can't remember seller id now, but just searched and compared on there.
ToniBailes
i find crushed Garlic or garlic granuals are a good source of keeping the flies down, especially when my hens eat it then when they poo the flies stay off it. i also wash my garden down alot with the hose. reneepren
I have the same fly trap the army uses but have been afraid to put it up after hearing how it attracts flies for miles and is disgusting to deal with when full. Renee
lolimac
I've planted a couple of eucaliptus trees/bushes on the outside of the run...i've heard they are a good deterrent..be interesting to see what happens..
Margaret
Must admit to hating my red fly trap.. Couldnt stand the smell and it did seem to attract all the neighbouring flys as well. Mind you it did work Wont be buying it again, Do burn citronella candles in their run, and it seem to work quite well on hot days. Also tie an old cloth sprayed with it on (citronella oil) and it wafts in the run, worked quite well last year as well.
