HENthusiastic
Hi guys, Just a quick question. Has anybody brought a webcam that you just attach to your laptop / computer. I've seen them on ebay for about £10. Is it really as easy as it sounds? you just stick the disk in and then stick the web cam on the top of your computer and you can use skype? Sounds too simple to be true. Not to mention too cheap!
yvonne
Yes, it is that easy and also pretty cheap these days even if you get a new one - I'm sure I've seen them in places like Lidl for very little recently- just beware of making calls in your pyjamas before combing you hair as I have done ! The Dogmother
Yes, it's best to set the webcam default as 'off' so that you don't get any nasty surprises. It is usually set to 'on' on most laptops.

Blackrocksrock
I skype almost every day with my friend from the states - It is so easy and cheap as apart from the webcam like I had to buy its free and we are often on for hours! HAve great fun with it.
bluekarin
My friends twin sister lives in Australia. They call each other every day over Skype and just leave the web cam on so it's like they are in the same room. But one is preparing breakfast and one is preparing dinner. Their kids can see each other as well, and wander off when they get a bit bored. Much better than a phone call
bostock422
with hardware like webcams you usually get some drivers/random software to go with it, (usually rubbish) if you get a webcam plug it in without installing the software just to see if it works first, and if it does there's no need to install the software given with the webcam, like i said, most of the time its normally rubbish. HENthusiastic
Thanks guys. It didn't come with any software. Its soooo tiny, I thought it wasn't going to be any good. With the help of ShaunW I have got it up and running I can't believe how good it is. We had our first skype chat with ShaunW, Mostin, Me, OH and Jerry (the silkie). Jerri thoroughly enjoyed it, because ShaunW and Mostin were here foster parents and looked after her while she was a teenager so she was excited to be able to skype with them . She went rushing off the the coop excitedly to tell the others she had been 'skyping'
