macadoodle
Morning, I'm looking for some advice please! Daisy our hen is about 18 months old. On Friday morning we noticed she was bleeding quite substantially from her vent. We took her to the vet who said she was not egg bound. He said something had obviously happened but couldn't really tell what - no obvious signs of attack or anything (plus we didn't hear anything either). He gave her 2 injections - anti inflammatory and antibiotic. We also have wound powder to apply as & when. She perked up later Friday afternoon and the bleeding has stopped. We have kept her separate from our other 2 hens. We have given her a bath this morning to clean her up - all looks well with the vent. She is trying to poo with small amounts coming out. She hasn't laid definately since Thursday, but possibly not for a week (with 2 others it's obviously difficult to tell but there has been an egg missing for the last week or so!). She is definately perking up, but is not her proper self - her nickname is Little Miss Nosey because she doesn't like to miss a thing! Any ideas what could have happened please? Any advice on what further to do (if anything)? Could it be the shock of whatever was wrong put her off egg laying? Any advice would be more than welcome - thank you. Ain't Nobody Here
Welcome to the forum . Sorry to hear about poor Daisy . I don't know much about this sort of thing but I'm wondering if something tore internally while she was laying an egg? However, if she's healing and looking better, there's no reason to think she won't lay again . Someone else may have a better idea than me .
