LolaLayla
I have noticed squirrels visiting the garden recently and they appear to go into the area where the girls are free ranging. So far they do not appear to have been seen by the girls. Yesterday I noticed that the 'grub' in the open run had fallen to the ground and was empty I am a bit concerned that the squirrel had found their food and ate it all. Has anyone else had this happen? If so, any ideas how to combat this? Pity the girls haven't seen them as I am sure a good peck would put them off
Chucky Mama
Squirrels will steal your chicken food and I am afraid that they will be back Chilli works at deterring squirrels eating bird food. Maybe you could give that a try.
penelope
Hi There I have the perfect solution................ I can hire Dave out at an hourly rate. She is the most territorial chicken ever. The squirrels have always fed in my garden but now we have a "you've been framed " moment watching the squirrel trying to creep up on the bird feeder without Dave noticing. She attacked a neighbours cat a few days ago & has seen off a heron too. My guess is that as soon as your girls become aware that they are having to share their food that they will chase it off. Good luckk Luv Penelope
LolaLayla
Thanks for the chilli tip. It is certainly worth a try if the squirrel returns. I wonder if the girls eggs would taste different With regards Dave - definately somehen to have on your side. I have to say that Lola can have her moments too when she sees a crow trying to steal treats. I think the girls were too busy grubbing around behind the summer house to notice 'stealth squirrel' noshing on their pellets! My next door neighbour has recently reinforced their bird feeders to reduce squirrel attention so perhaps that it why the girls food has been noticed. Thanks for your replies.
