Flaming June and sodden July

Claire, what type of rain gauge have you got? Sounds interesting & educational.

Bus drivers, eh?!

When I am at work I catch the bus, it's quite entertaining sometimes. I know who gets on a what stop etc... I wouldn't be a bus driver, though, I can just about park our Picasso in a big double parking spot at the supermarket, & I don't do right hand turns if I can help it

Jules, I will ask my mum as she bought the rain gauge, it has its own little stand too!

I sat opposite an 81 year old former Shropshire land girl on the bus, she was interesting! She was with her 89 year old friend :D

Oh Clare, I hope your roof stops leaking soon!

Well, I have had an interesting day :?

The Thunder storm started about 7am, & lasted until 1pm - & I mean it was constant the whole time. truly scarey stuff.

A lightning strike took my Modem out & I had to go to PC World to get a new one, which The Hubby has just fitted for me.

Driving was awful.......huge floods & really bad visibility.

About 2pm the downstairs toilet started gurgling, which means the sewers in the road have filled with water r become blocked with debris & our house, being the last one & at the bottom of the hill gets all the villages sewerage backing up into it.

Luckily The Hubby came home early & has popped the manhole cover in the road, so sewreage is gushing out further down than us (thank goodness).

Thanmes Water said they would be 2 hours - so far they have been 4 & a half

 Blimey - hope you are all ok, in the thundery and wet areas. I luckily took the boys to the park yesterday, and got sunburn on my shoulders  . Today we managed to walk the dog with overcast skies, then it started raining. On and off here though not persistant.

Lucky hubby sourced the right manhole - cinnamon.

We've had a nightmare day as well :?

We had to take son's girlfriend to Luton Airport at 11am, she's going back to Romania as her Mum has been ill, my son was going to Bug Fest in Northampton so we volunteered  It is 42 C in Transylvania  .We didn't even make it to the next village without having to drive through floods.

We made it to Luton after an horrendous drive, visibilty about 50yds and in some places we were doing 10mph on the M1. Luton Airport closed the slip road just after we left as it flooded - nothing in and nothing out.

We've been all over the country to get home - roads flooded and some closed. With a 4x4 you can take some risks but it was still difficult in places. We eventually made it back - couldn't get in our drive as A. it was blocked by cars unable to get through the flood at the island and B. our drive was flooded at the end - one last flood to drive through :? There were cars everywhere by the roadside.

We had no electrics and had to sort that out as it was a problem here, not a power cut. The pump on the Big Green Poo Machine is causing the problem.

Lauren and Jake were sent home from school becasue of the road chaos.

All our animals are OK - a bit soggy, but OK.

I'm just off to see the photos I took.

Oh Sarah I hope that sewer is holding out

Birmingham appears to be closed for business now :? New Street Station has been partially evacuated for safety reasons, there are no trains running south of New Street, and a lot of local road routes are flooded

And it is National talk like a Brummie day too!

Now where is that 'build your own coracle' book?

Best dust it off then Laura :D

Is it a two seater?

The way he talks about it, it would safely carry a boat load of passengers and never sink even if caught up in a tidal wave

( s'only cos he wants me to go out in it- and the only way I'm doing that is with a bottle of champagne and smoked salmon sarnies for lunch)

I AM NOT A WATER BABE!!!!!!!!

Well today was the last day of our holiday and it was time to venture back from just outside Stafford, home to Gloucester in around 1.5-2hrs.

The day started badly with my choice to take the awning down yesterday snubbed as it "would be ok in the morning". It rained since about 6am this morning. NOT fun.

Then 15 mins later we're on the M6 going.....nowhere

In hammering down rain we trudged along to join another queue on the M5 - made all the worse for the roadworks and flooding to sit there for the next few hours.

It took us over 2 hours just to get from Jct 11 through 11a and on to Jct 12 due to two lanes being closed, Gloucester has almost totally been closed off with flooding, Cheltenham has no buses running and queues everywhere!!

So that 1.5-2hr guestimate?

6.25 HOURS :( :( :( :(

To say it was a sodden way to end a week off is an understatement, and we've now got a very careful eye on the stream to the back of the house - it's breached but to the other side

:shameonu: & it stays there else we'll need flippers for the laydees - poor drenched things

And all this in........JULY :?::roll:

Oh, and Joe's mum and dad are on their way down from Lincoln, avoiding Moreton in Marsh that's waist high in water, so we can look after Ruby-dog for the weekend.........and we're supposed to meet them in Cirencester....... - fun fun fun!

I had a dreadful time.

My boss, myself & a colleague went to the pub for a swift half at lunch time.

Then the torrential rain, and thunder & lightning started.

It was terrible :!:

We could not go back to work as we would have got soaked through and been really uncomfortable all afternoon :(

So we just had to stay for another until it calmed down :D

Such a shame

Oh goodness, what a day we have all had.

Thanes water are still not here & are now not answering their phone either :?

On the bright side we have 2 boats - 1 canoe & one row boat under the garage, ready for action

And theres Brians Amphibious car too of course, which is now nearly finished

He never misses an opportunity when the weather is this bad to try to persuade me to drive it one day (but I will NOT!)

My number 1 stepson is working away in Beaconsfield at the moment.

He has taken over 6 hours to get home this afternoon on the M40 and M42 luckily he has just bought a 4x4 Nissan Navara (useful for him as he is a builder) and was able to get through the floods on the motorways that were causing the hold-ups.

Meanwhile in Tamworth, looks like the rivers (we have 2) might flood. Luckily we are up high on a hill but it doesn't stop the garden looking like a mud pit due to the clay soil and a recently moved eglu leaving bare patches of earth to turn to MUD!

OH has been on his way home since 4.30. He only has 9 miles to go so could have walked by now. All the side roads are closed by flooding and the main roads gridlocked as the M5 is closed. And I have just put some very wet hens to bed.

But at least we haven't been flooded. Touch wood.

Roll on summer.

 Oh my goodness - you've all had a horrible day! Hope everyone is now home, warm and dry for the night! :? We did nip out this morning, but got home again just after the rain started - it's looked awful though - black as the ace and torrential rain. I used a large golfing brolly when I went out to put the chooks to bed - they all ran underneath with me and stayed under as I walked across the swamp.

We have had such a huge amount of rain here, I had to empty the rain gauge as you can only get about 40mm of water in it. We have had 75mm or 3 inches in the last 24 hours

Fortunately there are no large rivers in Birmingham and it is quite hilly in parts too, so any flooding is confined to much smaller areas than in some places. Having said that, the two small rivers on the north side of the city have burst their banks and homes are flooded, and a few of the main arterial routes are closed as they are too deep to drive down. My house is on a slope, So I would not get flooded unless we are talking biblical proportions, fortunately.

Stay safe everyone.

We had a couple of inches of rain in half an hour yesterday, but nothing compared to what others have had.

OH is camping at a festival in Shropshire this weekend. I'm glad I persuaded him to buy a new hike tent before he went. I had a text from him this am to say it hasn't stopped raining since he arrived and its a bit muddy

Hope everyone is ok.

Well it's still raining here but the stream to the back has gone down, a bit.

The Gloucs & Sharpness Canal has gone up by about a foot and has spilled over the towpath in some places.

Joe's mum and dad didn't make it to us in the end. The couldn't get anywhere near to us (about 1.5hrs away in normal conditions) and ended up having to turn around and go home and won't be going to a family wedding this weekend in Dorset. They got back to Lincoln at about 230 this morning - 12odd hours since they left.

It's been a horrendous night around Gloucestershire and I really do feel for the people who had to sleep in their cars on the motorway - we're being told locally that 10000 people had to to do this.

Radio Gloucestershire has been wonderful in keeping people updated here, but it's only the people who are ringing in with updates that we know whats happening. The Police and Highways haven't said much at all. A total lack of information from them - we first heard them say to stay off the roads at 1730 yesterday - when the M5 had already been flooded for the best part of 5 hours!

Still got an anxious day here tho :?

I agree about the lack of information - my husband spent most of the night trying to get home from work (Cheltenham to Tewkesbury so it's hardly a long way). Any road out of Cheltenham that was open didn't link up with any road to our house. But the only news was about the M5 being closed.

At one point he was going to get out and walk, but heard from someone coming in the other direction that there was a bit of road up ahead of him where the firemen were roped together and struggling to get through the water!

Such dreadful reports of flooding and devastation and nightmare journeys :(:( .

We had about an hour of torrential rain down here, and since I was caught out driving in it it was scary. But nothing to compare to the ongoing deluge and chaos many people have suffered. I do hope that hose of you who have been affected are safe and well now.
