craftyhunnypie
SO sooo sad today. Boon my big Partridge Cochin cockerel died in his sleep! He had been ultra soppy with us for about 2 weeks, following me & hubby around like a puppy - up & down the track & over the bridge to put the bags of recycling out. It was like he preferred us to his ladies. He became a bit slow & started having snoozes stood on the spot a few days ago, but was still eating, drinking etc. Then on Saturday, he was stood infront of hubby car tyres - he very nearly got run over! I had to coax him back up to his ladies with my voice - it was like he was confused & lost - really not with it. Hubby gave him a cuddle & noticed his crop was hard. So we massaged it & it broke up & was fine then. Yesterday he was a bit slowish - hubby had to carry him to the coop, as he was so slow. This morning hubby brought me a cuppa & was crying that Boon had died in his sleep! His head was still tucked in. I am so upset. He was the first thing I ever hatched myself. I bought 3 eggs from Wernlas & 2 hatched..both boys! Boon was one of these - so has always been special! So now I am going to be looking for another large fowl boy and probably a couple of ladies to introduce at the same time - probably even a trio of the same breed. Totally gutted. Just so glad he got to roam the fields here. He loved it! Bye bye my gentle giant - will really miss you leading your hareem to the back gate & hoot hooting each morning. Here he is in his prime at our old house... Emma.x

craftyhunnypie
He took ages to fully mature. I'm so lucky to have two daughters from him - they are crosses, but beautiful. One is him crossed with a gold laced wyandotte.... the daughter is double laced. The other daughter is him crossed with a columbian blacktail (ginger)... that daughter is buff. Both big stocky beauties. Emma.x

Patricia W
So, so sorry to hear about Boon. How old was he? I've noticed my Phillip is slowing down and he is 3 and a half so I'm beginning to be a bit worried about him. Have you thought about an ex-batt boy? The rescue I use in Brackley (Redwing and Falkor help out here) has a number of beautiful boys needing a home. Maybe one nearer you has some? Just a thought.
