Space Chick
On Boxing Day I came down with a cold (OH had one), I carried on as normal for a few days. On the Thursday after Christmas, I was still unwell, but needed to clean the chickens out, so did it... I started having chest pains, felt incredible weak and had a racing pulse. Friday, I felt really rough so rested. Same new years eve (we were in bed before 10pm). new years day I was worse, my chest was tight and my breathing became a problem. that night I really couldn't breathe and had awful chest pains, so in the morning I went to the emergency Out of Hours GP. I occasionally get asthma during hay fever season but am not a regular sufferer. The doctor diagnosed me with viral bronchitis and had said it had brought on asthma symptoms. As it was viral, antibiotics would do no good, but he prescribed steroids, an inhaler and bed rest and said if I wasn't better to go back to my own GP at the end of the week. It's now Thursday and whilst my breathing is much better (although still not right), I am coughing up yellow mucus and just feel that somebody has zapped me of all energy. I've barely got out of bed all week, and whilst I've had the odd quick shower, I haven't washed my hair since 2011! I'm going back to the GP tomorrow, but I really can't afford to be ill due to work commitments (I've been off sick all week, and could really do without time off) and due to family commitments. Really feeling fed up now, and needed a moan! Edited January 18, 2012 by Guest
Omletina Kyckling
Oh Hun, that sounds awful. You're being sensible though by staying in and resting as much as possible. Just be sensible and hopefully you'll be on the mend soon. Sending you lots of hugs xx
pips_pekins
What a miserable start to 2012. I hope you are feeling better soon. There seems to be loads of bugs doing the rounds where I work. You can't help getting ill. Work will cope without you and family will be more concerned that you get plenty of rest so that you get better quickly. Patricia W
So sorry Space Chick. It sounds vile. But take time to get better- other things may seem pressing now, but if you go back too early, it could actually be counter-productive and mean you take longer to recover. So take care. Alis girls
hope you feel better - also have a hacking cough, tummy ache. I sound like I smoke 20 a day. Space Chick
depsite working for the NHS they are not sympathetic to workers being ill This is why I am desperate to get back to work... I work in the NHS
Alis girls
Well hope you get more sympathy than I did - if kids are sick at school ie puking sick - its 48 hours before they set foot in the building again (round here anyway) if you are puking and work in the NHS they will have you back whenever - thats it spread to those vunerable patients. stupid. Alis girls
What I meant to add SC is take care of yourself cos no one else will take care of you - 20 yrs + of working in NHS and you can see why its such a blooming mess. Take care of your workers and they will respect you - I'm going in today depsite the fact I feel awful - seeing GP this afternoon - martyr - yup got it in one. Get well soon Sc
TAJ
It may have been viral, but if you are coughing up yellow stuff it may be you now have a secondary bacterial infection - my 85 yr old dad has been like this since Christmas - the GP gave him antibiotics yesterday. Look after yourself! Tracy
scubababe
((hugs)) You have my sympathy. I had this the week before Christmas. Sat here the evening of the 23rd and started getting the most excruciating chest pains....I dialled 999!! I have a heart condition & have never had pains like that!! Poor hubby came home to find me in tears on the floor clutching my chest waiting for the ambulance. Was rushed to hospital & 11 hours later was finally released 12am on Christmas eve. There was 2 other people in with the same symptoms!! They said it was the peak of my viral chest infection and with rest I should be ok So I came home & started preping the Christmas meal for 8!! Still have a bit of a cough but it is a lot better than it was and at least I can now sleep at night. Hope you start to feel better soon. I just took some Covonia & throat lozengers
Space Chick
That sounds frightening Scubababe, and very similar to how I felt. I woke up this morning having had a slightly better nights sleep (still woke several times coughing but was able to get straight back) thought I was feeling much better, went downstairs to sort the cats and have some breakfast (to take my steroids) and felt weak and wheezy again I am definitely a little better than I was yesterday, but still not at all well I'm back to see my GP this afternoon, will see what they say. Mercedes55
I'd never even heard of viral bronchitis I don't usually get many colds but did come down with a sore throat in the middle of December. That turned into a head cold, then a really bad cough and it was a good 2wks before I felt okay. On Monday OH started to feel ill with a sore throat and by Thursday morning I had caught it too. I had a dental appt yesterday for a crown prep and I knew they would charge me if I cancelled, so had to sit there for over an hour, which was not easy. Also have the builders in doing a new drive and they are in and out of the house and I had been making them cups of tea all day long, but today after my 2nd night of being awake and just coughing all the time, I've made them tea and gone back to bed as I feel so awful As I take medication that can react with cough medicines I have just been having mugs of hot lemon and manuka honey in the hope that it will help a bit. scubababe
((hugs)) space chick, It's made worse that you can't get a good nights sleep! You DO have to be careful as you occasionally suffer from Asthma so your lungs are in a slightly weakened state. Ignore the housework...if you get a chance to have a rest/sleep grap it!! Have a take-a-way today..don't cook. Rest as much as you can
Ain't Nobody Here
That sounds awful, SC . Hope you start to feel better soon . Same goes for you, Mercedes .
chelsea
You have my sympathies SC. Get well soon! x I have been suffering from something similar, had flu type bug (left me bedbound for days) in the first week of December, I had 3 days off work, went back to work for one day and then was off another week. Doctor said I had "infected airways, tonsilitis & ear infection" post the flu bug, 2 weeks of antibiotics and I am still suffering now - cannot shift the mucus off chest or a barking cough. I am convinced it's the weather's fault - we need a cold snap pronto!!!

Lavenders_Blue
Big hugs to all the poorly people - it sounds like you're having a rotten time. I am convinced it's the weather's fault - we need a cold snap pronto!!! Couldn't agree more, all this mild weather has done nothing for all the bugs and germs, we need a good, sharp, cold snap to kill all the bugs off. snowberry
I know what you mean about the weather. However really cold weather sets my asthma off; I'm sneezing today & hoping I'll be fine for my annual Get Out of Cornwall trip next week. Best wishes to all who are feeling yucky! Space Chick
Back from GPs... I still have a temperature, and my resting heart rate is 125 My chest is sounding clear, but my body is obviously displaying signs of a continued infection... So she think the viral bronchitis has now turned into a bacterial infection She's prescribed a 7 day course of antibiotics and an extension to my steroids. She hasn't signed me off work...yet .... We are both hoping that the antibiotics will kick in quickly and I can go back on Monday, but if I don't feel well enough I have to go back for a paper. Spoken to my boss and she's been great, she said whilst she's missing me, she'd rather me stay off until I feel well.
