quickcluck
Does anyone have these books and use/recommend them???? Someone mentioned it to me today and have had a browse online. Is it a book that is usable or just good to look at? I enjoy to bake and oftern do cupcakes and stuff - although not very professional looking so wondered if it would be a good investment? Thanks K
munkee1965
Hi I have their book called Cake Days. It's got some lovely recipes in it and I use it quite a lot. Another one which is really nice is Cupcake Making with Lola.
Patricia W
I've got a Hummingbird one and it's very good. Another idea if you want to learn how to do a professional finish is to look at youtube. Loads of lessons on there.
ubereglu
I have to say I'm generally not impressed by a lot of the Hummingbird Bakery books. I think they're just a bit overly fussy, and you dont always get good results. More is focused on fussy icing than actually having a nice cake. I'd go for the cake books published by Hamlyn for really good instructions and simple ideas for a novice-much better in my opinion.
chickencam
We have it, but to be honest we have only really made the lemon cupcakes which are nice, but all of the recipes have a rediculous amount of sugar in them, must be an American thing. The icing recipes are useful, because there are quite a few different ones which strangely enough have less sugar than standard butter cream. Sue_F
I have one of their books and really like it but the recipes for icing are twice the amount I like!! Katy
clucker1
I AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on the sugar front bit. I have tonight made their traditional vanilla cupcakes. They taste disgusting, they are so sweet. The recipe uses more sugar than normal cup cakes. YUCK! My kids will love them for after school tomorrow I expect. But I won't be making them again. The Dogmother
Rosie has the cupcake cookbook and has made a few recipes but I'v altered the recipes to use less sugar. I am guessing that they are 'translated' from US recipes as they generally tend to use more sugar than us when baking.
Lavenders_Blue
I have the Hummingbird cupcake book and have only tried one recipe which was for courgette and carrot muffins. They were rubbish! My mum has a different Hummngbird recipe book and has made some fab brownies from them. So I think the recipes may be a bit hit and miss. Goosey Lucy
I have the Primrose Bakery Cupcake cookbook, I bought my sister a Hummingbird Bakery book, I looked through her recipes and decided I preferred mine It also has a few recipes for full size cakes but the majority are cupcakes/muffins. I made blueberry and polenta cupcakes this morning - very moreish
