iar fach goch
I, too, have celebrated my 40th this year. Many of my friends have been to New York with their partners (seems to be the in thing to do at the moment), had a party and one climbed Snowdon. I decided to do one thing every month for the whole year, including various friends and family. So far this year have been to see Billy Connolly, Sarah Millican and Rhod Gilbert (yes I love comedians!), been to my first Wales international rugby match, been to see WWE wrestling (one for the boys!), holiday in Cyprus, and a special meal with extended family. To look forward to I have John Bishop, Nickleback and a holiday in Portugal with extended family to celebrate MIL's 80th! Only September and December remain empty! I don't normally get out much, so this year has been really busy, and it has been lovely to meet up more often with family and friends. This year has also been a very difficult year for me, so the extended birthday has given me something to look forward to every month. I need to find something for September quite quickly though! The Dogmother
I'm going to have a "survival" party for my 40th, I love things like that! That sounds worryingly like the survival running that Rosie did in Horley woods I have a short list for my 50th, not given it a lot of thought yet, suppose I'd better get my thinking cap on
lillybettybabs
Another one for me would be Tea at The Ritz.
craftyhunnypie
Plum - you coming my house for your birthday then? Choice of beaches - not far & plenty of fish 'n' chips! Just watch the seagulls don't pinch them! I like stuff like this too, simple but lovely! Emma.x
Smudge
Hubby and I will both hit 50 next year, so we're planning on renting one of the National Trust's historic properties and taking the whole family away with us for a long weekend of playing Lord and Lady of the Manor! For something special on one of the nights we want to arrange a Murder Mystery dinner party so we can all dress up and really get into the spirit of it. coppers
Afternoon tea as previously mentioned? A group of us went to Claridges for ED's 30th birthday last year (we live in Brighton) and it was really lovely. If a trip to London is not possible a decent hotel near you would probably offer an afternoon tea. Or do it indoors? We love afternoon tea!!! For my, and my OH's joint 50th, our children arranged a short stay for us in a vineyard in Gloucester. We stayed in a lodge amongst the actual vines (it was great to wake up in a vineyard ) and part of the package was a tour which included wine tasting and seeing how the wine was made ,from the picking of the grapes to the bottling. Breakfast and evening meal was included and the food was very good. We often took a walk around the grounds where we saw lots of wildlife. It was great. x
Angie
You do whatever you really want, i mean it. I did , i had my 40th in the officers mess . Out in Oman . A dinner for a few close colleagues and OH & YDD. Mess silver everything ,8 courses fantastic. Till the evening disco in the ballroom for anyone who chose to join us. We had a wonderful time, lots of good music , drinkies and dancing it was the dancing and mess songs that were expensive. A bit of french polishing was required to a table or two after jolly wind blowing and climbing of mountains ( mess game ) a civvy or two didn't take their shoes off. Still i paid the bill and we had to eat in the mess for a month as i ended up quite brassic and OH wouldn't bail me out. If i had been in UK , I would have liked a trip on the orient express. I hated turning 30 , i couldn't see anything but children, uniform , uniform and one of us always being away. But at 40, the children were very grown a bit less uniform but my life was starting to be mine again and i could enjoy it without my needs being at the bottom of the list. Whatever you do have a wonderful time .
