I'm now a Newbie Cubie...

Recommended Posts

I haven't posted for ages but I'm always lurking. I have to share as I know you'll all understand - I'm now the proud owner of a second hand cube. I'm so excited as it's just what I need now that I have enlarged my little flock somewhat! And it was an absolute bargain locally too.

I just have to have a clean out and a juggle round and work out how to take bits off to get it into the WIR.

I got my new (second hand) cube from a forum member yesterday (thank you JohnB! ) and I love it!!

My other half took the lid, back and sides off, oh and he wheels and we just turned it on its side and then lifted and put it in, he had built it by 8:30 this morning and dismantled my red mite ridden wooden coop! It took a total of 1 hr to do everything, and then the girls went in and we've had 5 eggs today and all the girls seem super happy.

I hope you enjoy your cube :D

Well it's in the run and has been investigated by the ladies but not christened with an egg yet. It was simple to sort out and I'm so glad to have it. 7 of my girls like to roost in the run at night and not go in and I was a bit concerned that they'd get cold as the weather changes. Having the cube will mean that most of them can go in together instead of being split between eglus. I think it'll help with them acting together as a flock as well. Last year I only had 6 girls and they all preferred to pile into one eglu to sleep. I'm up to 15 now (mix of LF and bantams) so now they have a choice of 2 classics or a cube!

Might have to change the ladder a bit though. There were some interesting fall/jumps today and one quite spectacular slide down the side of it!

Mine have been sliding down the ladder too, but they have all gone in for the night, even Gertie who is getting on a bit...its a bit like starting again, making sure they are all ok and using it alright without problems.

I've even shut the door and tucked them all in as we seem to be having big winds here tonight
