Luvachicken
Lucie has been given Baytril. She is quite a fiesty girl so I was wondering if I could mix the 0.25ml of Baytril into some food stuff - like mash potato or something else yummy, so I don't have to stress her too much each day by wrapping her in a towel. Chortle Chook
I would think that would be fine, providing you can be certain that she eats all the potato and gets her full dose. I've had to give it to pet rats before now and I mixed it with honey and I'm currently giving it to a dog and have it in pill form that I hide in a cocktail sausage. So clearly it can be mixed. You just need to make certain somehow that she eats it all. How about putting some meal worms in the mashed potatoe too?
Luvachicken
I separated her from the others and gave her mash potato in a little dish with the baytril on top. She didn't really like the mash so I put corn on top and that seemed to go down quite well but not all of it. Tomorrow, sadly, I will resort to the towel method and get it over and done with - no messing.
sandyhas3chucks
I find putting nasty tasting medicine into a gel capsule is soooo much easier. one fight and poke it in.. though you do have to be very ready or the capsule starts to dissolve, but easier than having to squirt and be careful not to squirt intro the wind pipe. The other thing (this is easier with a small dose of the 10% stuff... but still do-able on the other is to squirt the dose on a small piece of nice yummy white bread, then cover both sides with butter.. about a 5p or weeny bit bigger size... good luck
Luvachicken
I have got quite good at dribbling a tiny bit of medicine at the edge of their beak and they can't help but lick it up a bit like us eating a sugary donut I just wanted to save her the trauma of being held in the towel. I'm sure she will forgive me if I give her some mealworms after.
