Lulabellx1
Hello fellow chicken keepers. We have just added 3 new POL hens to our existing flock of four birds. The Black Sussex laid us an egg yesterday (whoop) and another today. I removed her egg almost immediately (as one got broken yesterday). She was acting normally for a couple of hours, but now she has returned to the nesting box and wont come out. She is scratching about in there as if she is going to lay another egg... but nothing seems to be coming. She then sits down, as if broody. Do you think she is just confused, as she knows she laid an egg... and just wants to sit on it? I would be very surprised if a POL could go broody straight away... anyone had any experience of this? We are letting them all free range at the moment, while they get to know each other... so she is not in-hiding from the other hens or anything. There has been very little hen-pecking going on. My other half suggested that she might well have another egg coming, as I know they can be sporadic in the early days. Any ideas?
