Sooo much pooping

Hi everyone, I have been keeping chickens for a few years now but this has stumped me!

My ginger chicken is looking very slow and sleepy, I just picked her up to inspect her and she is blown up and hollow a bit like a balloon underneath.?

Poor ginger, any ideas on what this could be and what to do about it?

Sounds like peritonitis. She needs to be seen by a vet asap as it isn't something that can be cured with home remedies.

Thanks for the advice, I have been told that it isn't something they recover from often and the cost involved in treament that may not work versus her suffering meant that we decided to end her life at this point.

I had noticed since she came into lay that her eggs were a funny shape and sometimes she laid shelless eggs, so I think she was weak in this area right from the start and prone to this problem.

Sorry to hear you lost your chicken. Mine had the same thing and was PTS yesterday. A few months ago one of them laid a 'lash' where they lay part of the intestine with the egg and there were eggs laid with very soft shells that just slid through the bars. There wernt any this morning so I think they might have been coming from her.
