Blasted barbed wire *GORY PHOTO*

Recommended Posts

It's illegal in other countries - why do we still have it here?

My lurcher, Cyrus ripped his chest on some abandoned barbed wire yesterday while we were walking; he had a triangular flap of skin on the front of his chest hanging off, and two smaller nicks on either side of it.

Not much bleeding as it was just a peeling back of skin, and no major damage, but it was too big for me to mend at home, so off we went to the V.E.T. yesterday so he could have a light GA and sutures. He was wobbly last night and a bit disorientated, but is better this morning, and wearing a shirt to stop him mithering the stitches.

It could have been worse.

Cyrus sends licks and snuffles back to his ginger mate Tango.

Ali; I'm fine with almost anything gory, except when they take blood from me; everything else is fine. Luckily I was walking with a friend who is an oedema treatment specialist (humans and animals) so she helped me to get a temporary dressing on him to keep it clean on the way to the vet.

He's doing fine thanks Ali - I am checking the wound daily and anointing it with Manuka honey. Lurchers don't do The Cone of Shame very easily as they have slim heads, so the collar just comes off. I just have a tight vest on him so that he can't reach the stitches to mither them.

When I take the stitches out next week, I'll dab a little menthol around the area to stop him licking as he tends to over-lick and cause granulomas.

Thanks Lucy, he's fine. Now sporting a child's T shirt from the charity shop as his 'muscle vest', which stops him from mithering the stitches is in the wash. Both dogs are melted onto their beds in front of the stove; I'm not sue that anything short of a bomb will move them now

I hope in vain that this incident will teach him to keep away from barbed wire, but he never learns, and is blind to any hazards when he's on the hunt  Ruby is very clever... one incident with a leccie fence has kept her away from them since, but Cyrus is a 'Bear of very little brain'
