northybaby
so i posted about one of our hens being really noisy. well its gotten worse. it starts as soon as she wakes up and carries on for at least 3hours. then i go to work and she could still be doing it i dont know. she is doing it all the time, if shes in the run or not, if there is loads of food and treats or not! i thought maybe it was ' i want to lay an egg and someone is in there already' but even after she has laid she is doing it. Im running out of ideas! ive checked for redmite, have not seen any signs of it but treated for it anyway. its getting so bad im thinking about giving her away to people who dont have neighbours or ears! i was told not to go to hear and fuss when she starts so i compleatly ignore them now but still it continues and its just getting worse. im dreading the summer when they wake up earlier and go to bed later
jimnpaula
Has anyone made a complaint? Like a mother hears her baby you are more attuned to the noises your hens make and so it seems like a racket to you, but maybe not for others. Continue to ignore her and try not to worry about it. I'm sure other forum members will have similar stories and be able to offer more advice.
Plum
When mine have seemed really noisy and vocal, I've asked neighbours, given away eggs etc., but they say they like to hear them. After that they don't sound anywhere near as noisy. So if your neighbours aren't bothered try and switch off a bit like jmnpaula says. If the coop door is closed it muffles it a bit until they're let out.
northybaby
The neighbours say they can't hear them. But the house directly next door has been empty for months. Someone moving in soon to rent. But it's me she's annoying. I don't mind getting up and letting them out at 7 but sometimes I would like to be able to go back to bed for a bit. But the way she is I can't. My partner is getting really fed up with her too. I don't think I'm imagining how loud it is. Sounds like she's screaming. I guess maybe this is just normal for her. sjp
a hen that gets into the habit of 'mouthing' off is a nightmare I've got a couple that do it from time to time I find it's a low ranking hen that starts them off by been in the nest box when they want it or going in when they are in there then they will mouth off every time they lay an egg for a month or more them suddenly stop for a while I find that hens are far more noisy than cockerels when they get into these ruts as they take ages to shut up were as the boys get bored of it very quickly. the other problem with noisy hens is it can be contagious
